Fans at PAX Prime Conference in Seattle Aim to Honor Pink Video Game Icon with New Record for Most People Blowing a Chewing Gum Bubble Simultaneously

PAX Prime Conference 2012
–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo:

WHAT:

Fans of Nintendo’s classic Kirby™ character will come together for a new Guinness World Records® attempt for the most people blowing a chewing gum bubble simultaneously. At the PAX Prime conference on Sept. 1, these consumers will not only attempt to break the standing record of 304 participants but will also get the chance to win fun prizes, including Kirby’s Dream Collection: Special Edition. The event will help to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Kirby franchise and celebrate the upcoming Sept. 16 launch of Kirby’s Dream Collection: Special Edition for Wii.

For two decades, the unique-looking pink hero known as Kirby has been inhaling his way through Dream Land and into the hearts of video game fans everywhere. While he may be pink, round and adorable, he’s also a ferocious warrior who defeats his enemies by inhaling objects and spitting them back out with incredible force, making him one of the most recognizable and beloved game characters in the world.

Below are a few select games scheduled to hit the Wii, DS, and 3DS shops on August 30. We’ll get the full list early next week.

3DS VC

Kirby’s Star Stacker – £2.70

DSiWare

iSpot Japan – £1.80 / 200 points

WiiWare

Successfully Learning English Year 4 – 800 points

According to the Gamestation Dudley Twitter account, the retailer is now taking pre-orders for Wii U. A £20 deposit is required to place an early order. This should apply to GAME outlets as well.

Gamestation doesn’t have any news about a price, release date, colors, or any other launch information. That will be changing on September 13, though, as a “global announcement” is planned. Even though Nintendo of Europe won’t be holding a press conference on that day, there will be details to share.

Nintendo has a strong grip on the Japanese sales market. A new report from Media Create claims that the Big N currently maintains a 70% share on all software and hardware sales in the country. The sales tracker says this is Nintendo’s highest percentage in the pat five years.

The 3DS XL, Wii, and DSi sales have collectively maintained a 75% share of all hardware sales in Japan over the past year. Sony is the next closest leader at 23%.

Last week, 69.74% of Japanese software sales accounted for Nintendo platforms. Dragon Quest X and New Super Mario Bros. 2 are two big titles that contributed to the figure. To compare, Sony’s share came in at 29.18%.

CNET has given us a full look at the Wii U media event invitation. It’s honestly not that big of a deal, but it does confirm that the proceedings will begin at 10 AM and carry through 4 PM. I imagine that first hour will consist of a press conference in which the Wii U release date and price are announced, followed by hands-on time with games.

Remember: this will all be taking place on September 13. We’ll be sure to cover all of the important news!
