Cambridge, Mass. – July 29th, 2011– Harmonix today announced that 5 singles from the Beastie Boys, Heart, James Brown and Rufus will be available beginning August 2nd in the Rock Band 3 Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™.

Rock Band provides the deepest and best selection of artists, songs and albums through the Rock Band music platform, which features more than 900 artists and more than 3,000* tracks via disc and download purchase (complete list of tracks at www.rockband.com/songs). Rock Band’s gigantic music library dwarfs that of any other rhythm video game on the market. As we reported on a few hours ago, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata held a Q&A session for Nintendo’s Q1 2011 financial results earlier today. Although he didn’t prepare a presentation, he did provide a few opening remarks, mainly focusing on the 3DS price drop. Iwata also discussed salary reductions for executives, including himself.

Good morning. Before accepting questions, there is one thing that I would like to address here.

Since the first fiscal quarter has limited importance within the annual business of game companies, it does not make much sense for me to make a detailed presentation on the business in that quarter, so I have not made such preparations for today. On the other hand, a number of people must have such doubts as, “Why does the company have to make such a drastic markdown now?” Please let me talk about that before the Q&A session.

First of all, we have made the decision to markdown the Nintendo 3DS because we recognize that the current situation surrounding the system is different from that before the launch and immediately after the launch.

Having strong momentum is very important for game platform businesses. Once momentum is lost, great power is needed to change that trend.
