Rhodri Broadbent, who has previously worked on Fable, Star Fox Command, The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character, and Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims, is now making a game for the Wii U eShop.

Broadbent is bringing “Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails” to the platform. There’s only a logo to see for now, but a few gameplay details have already emerged. You can find those below along with commentary from Broadbent.

– Release planned for this year
– Scram Kitty lives in the TV
– Play the buddy on rails
– 2D shooter
– Whiz about the interior of spaceships disposing of enemies with colorful little jets of gunfire as you bounce and grind off networks of rails
– Kind of like Smash TV and Jet Set Radio
– There’s some second screen magic that has the TV broadcasting the buddy on rail’s actions, overlaying it with splashes of action and commentary that turn the 2D action into something that’s as energetic and engaging as a Japanese game show
– Broadbent: “I like it when you have experiences with family. They hate touchscreen because the stress, but they enjoy the passive thing of watching you play the game. My brother used to enjoy watching me play Speedball 2.”
– A link exists between the two screens that has the buddy on rails sending items across to scram kitty in order to progress
– This link extended through Miiverse
– Broadbent: “We want to make it so that it can translate messages that you send into an assist mode. You know in Street Fighter 4 and you get a super finish and everything goes crazy and it feels awesome? We want to make it so you can send those abilities to other players. So if you beat a boss or do something in a certain time, that can be translated into an assist item for a friend.”
– Gary Lucken helping with the visuals

Head past the break for a few more quotes, including Broadbent talking about meeting Shigeru Miyamoto when he was with Q-Games:

Maestro Interactive Games has three Wii U eShop titles in the pipeline. Along with the previously announced Super Ubi Land made by Notion Games, Maestro has announced Fade into Darkness and Cosmic Highway for the platform.

Fade into Darkness’ first trailer will debut during GDC. Cosmic Highway will also be getting a trailer during Maestro’s Kickstarter campaign.

Zen Studios will have information about the Wii U version of Star Wars Pinball (which will be heading to Zen Pinball 2) in the future.

If you listen to the podcast you know that I go on reddit quite a bit, and today while surfing along the front page I noticed that in the Wii U subreddit people were discussing how Ancel and his crew are protesting the delay of Rayman: Legends. The top comment in that thread? Someone was trying to get an online protest going that they wonderfully termed “We Love Rayman!”:

“I’ll be making a collage with everybody’s picture and send a thank you to Ubisoft’s developers. The point is to make an echo to Ubisoft, show we do support Rayman, just not their decision.” – Reddit user ‘SuitMyPants’, who has a great username

He asks that people send photos of themselves supporting Rayman to [email protected], and when he gets enough he’ll put them all together in a collage for the developers to see. I’m not sure if this will change Ubisoft’s decision (maybe we’ll get another exclusive demo!), but at least it’ll get them to think twice before doing something like this in the future!

Not to mention that it’ll give the developers a nice warm tingly feeling. Send your photos to the address above if you want to participate! And don’t use a bunch of swear words condemning Ubisoft. That’ll just make you seem like a big jerk who is full of baloney.

It’s currently unknown as to what lies ahead for Puddle developer Neko Entertainment. Having said that, you can be rest assured that the indie studio is busy creating “several games on many platforms.” Wii U is fortunately included in those plans.

Discussing Neko Entertainment’s lineup, the company said:

“Yes, we are working on several games on many platforms. The Nintendo Wii U will be one of these platforms ! But I cannot tell you more at the moment!”

Toki Tori 2 developer Two Tribes has confirmed some of the game’s features on Wii U. Off-TV play and the previously announced “Tokidex Camera” will both be supported.

However, Toki Tori 2’s level editor won’t be ready for launch. This will be added to the game in the future. Two Tribes is also thinking about including Miiverse support.

Two Tribes wrote in a blog post today:

Capcom has supported Wii U with two game’s thus far: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Resident Evil: Revelations, which will arrive on the console soon. Aside from these two releases, more support from the publisher seems to be on the way.

When asked by a fan why Capcom Arcade Cabinet and Darkstalkers Resurrection aren’t coming to Wii U, Capcom’s Christian Svensson explained that the titles’ inception came “before having visibility into the digital Wii U market or Nintendo’s policies/vehicles pertaining to digital.” Svensson did leave a tease for Wii U eShop fans, noting that they “will have things to look forward to in the future.”

Multiplatform refers to”more than one”. It does not necessarily mean “all”.

To answer your question more clearly, the projects in question were conceived of and started before having visibility into the digital Wii U market or Nintendo’s policies/vehicles pertaining to digital.

Fear not though. Wii U eShop fans will have things to look forward to in the future.

In another thread discussing Wii U support in general, Svensson additionally teased:

We’ve got MH Tri Ultimate and RE: Revelations announced for Wii U with more fun you’ll hear about “in the not-so-distant future ™”.

What else might Capcom have in store for Wii U?
