Wii U

Earlier today, Nintendo UK published a new Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate infographic covering the game’s connectivity. You can find it below.

This week’s GameStop ad has gone live. The full lineup of deals can be found in the circular below:

Along with today’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut trailer, Square Enix passed along a comprehensive listing of the game’s new elements. It’s quite extensive, covering featuring such as unique GamePad implementation and more.

We’ve posted the full rundown below.

Total Game Immersion
• You ARE Adam Jensen. The GamePad is Jensen’s Neural Hub, one of his implanted augmentations and possibly his most powerful tool.
• The “in-game” menus are now toolkits; they feel like part of the game flow and one of Adam Jensen’s augmentations.
• Tongs’s Rescue mission and the entire Missing Link chapter have been integrated seamlessly into the narrative flow of the Director’s Cut.
• Original pre-order and other bonus weapons are now at Jensen’s disposal.

GameStop may be disappointed in the Wii U’s performance over the past few months, but that doesn’t mean the retailer has given up on Nintendo’s system.

Following GameStop’s latest earnings call, CEO J. Paul Raines chatted with GamesIndustry about a few topics including the Wii U. Raines noted that the company believes “Wii U is a real console that’s been disappointing for a couple months”, though said “there’s more there when the first-party titles come out.”

“This industry has a lot of cynicism and people love to say stuff isn’t going to work, but we think the Wii U is a real console that’s been disappointing for a couple months, but we think there’s more there when the first-party titles come out. Nintendo’s got a few up their sleeve.”

We’ve already seen one instance in which a company created an improved version of an older game for Wii U, only to re-release it later on its original platforms (see Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge). Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut is somewhat similar in that numerous changes and additions have made their way to the Wii U game.

But when it comes to the new Deus Ex version, it doesn’t sound like the Director’s Cut content will be coming to other platforms. Game designer Emile Pedneault told Penny Arcade Report recently that the title’s enhanced visuals, reworked bosses, and other elements aren’t planned for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC – for now, anyway.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut is far from a straight port. The team has touched up the visuals, added in some neat Wii U-specific features, and more.

Also worth mentioning are the reworked boss fights in Director’s Cut. Game designer Emile Pedneault told Siliconera that “80% of everything that is new in the Wii U version is based upon what players had to say”, including those pesky boss fights, which are now much improved.

“We listen to feedback, 80% of everything that is new in the Wii U version is based upon what players had to say, and we know that the boss fights got the biggest criticism.”

So this is kind of an odd thing to talk about, but it is what it is.

We all know that Amazon has had a strained relationship with Nintendo when it comes to hardware. For whatever reason, the retailer won’t sell 3DS and Wii U systems in the US directly. Reggie Fils-Aime wouldn’t talk about the matter when asked about the situation in September of last year, and Amazon hasn’t said much either.

What’s interesting is that Amazon is now encouraging consumers to consider competitor products on Nintendo’s hardware pages. The 3DS listing tells visitors to “Also consider the PlayStation Vita” complete with a comprehensive banner at the top while the Wii U page informs buyers about the “just announced” PlayStation 4 and gives alternative console options to mull over. And in case you were wondering, there aren’t similar listings on the PS Vita, PS3, or Xbox 360 product pages.
