Nintendo to shut down various Wii services in late June
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Podcast Stories, Wii | 0 comments
Almost all of the Wii’s significant channels will be coming to an end in June.
In Europe, Australia, and Japan, five services will be going offline. While nothing has been announced by Nintendo of America, we’ll likely be hearing something very soon from the subsidiary.
The Nintendo Channel, News Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel and Mii Contest Channel are included in the group. You also won’t be able to send and receive messages through the Wii Message board. On the bright side, the Wii Shop Channel will still be accessible.
“We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company’s products. We apologise to those of you currently using these services, and ask for your understanding. The above services will no longer be available even if they are started up from the Wii Menu. However, services other than those mentioned above, such as the Wii Shop Channel and ‘Today’s Accomplishments’ on the Wii Message Board, will remain available.”

I haven’t been putting much of an emphasis on Disney Planes since I just don’t see it turning out well. It was covered in Nintendo’s Wii U third-party PR that was put out earlier today. Still, you can find a few screenshots below along with the official fact sheet.

Metallica songs being pulled from the Rock Band store as licensing agreements expire
Posted on 11 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 0 comments
Just as with any licensing agreement, there comes a time when a certain content distributor is o longer legally allowed to sell the content they licensed from a particular third party. Such a day has come for Rock Band creator Harmonix, as they will be yanking the much-loved ‘Metallica’ from their store– or at least, one pack of their songs that was released for players to download.
“Metallica Pack 01” (including such hits as ‘Ride the Lightning’ and ‘Blackened’) is now unavailable from the console-accessed ‘Rock Band Music Store’, and soon it will also be removed from first-party marketplaces as well. More songs will likely follow suit going into the next few months or years, but Harmonix says they’re looking to extend an “overwhelming majority” of content licenses they have to minimize the legalese’ effect on their customers.
