Here’s a Podcast – Episode 96!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 1 Comment
ON THIS EPISODE: A great round of what we played this week! Much more talk about Mario Kart 8 to kick things off, Laura and Austin discuss the strange world of Tomodachi Life, and Jack and Austin praise 1001 Spikes! It’s a good thing.
PLUS: We talk about some brief E3 predictions, and halfway through we decide to start marking down our YES/NO predictions in order to check them next week and see how we did.
AND: Listener mail rounds out the day, as usual. We talk about how to review games (as usual), some E3 stuff, and whether or not you can use your 3DS in a sauna.

Here’s a Podcast – Episode 95!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 4 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: The first half hour of the show is dominated by talk of two masterful games that Jack played: Katamari Damacy and The Last of Us, followed by some talk of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box and Child of Light from Laura.
PLUS: Did you think we’d forget about Mario Kart 8? Heck no! We talk for a solid 45 minutes about the game, so skip to the 48 minute mark if you just can’t wait to hear all about our thoughts on it.
AND: Since what we played took so long (due to the big release!) we don’t talk much about the Gamecube controller port for Wii U, so listener mail on a variety of subjects rounds out the show for a two-hour-long bonanza.

Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 16 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: What we played? Moon Chronicles makes up most of the new games we’ve run through this week, but Squids Odyssey makes a brief appearance as well as some discussion of a book on game criticism by Ian Bogost titled “Unit Operations”. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze makes its return as Austin laments the lack of attention the game gets (given how incredible he says it is), and Super Mario 64 becomes the catalyst for a discussion about when bias becomes too strong to ignore.
PLUS: A mid-segment this week about our memories of the now-dead Nintendo Wifi Connection, plus some short discussion about Hyrule Warriors.
AND: Complaint Corner makes its return because Austin is extremely upset about the way some people analyze or perceive games; he thinks game critics still have a long way to go before coming into their own. Listener mail about a variety of topics rounds out the ending!

Here’s a Podcast – Episode 93!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 7 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: We’ve got some new Nintendo-platform games to talk about this week! First off, though, Laura tells us about the actually-not-terrible DLC for Disney Magical World and the crew discusses the online play of Mario Kart Wii and why sometimes no-communication can be cool. Then, Jack gives us his impressions of the new Wii U eShop game Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails, and Austin walks us through the first hour or so of Moon Chronicles on 3DS.
PLUS: Nintendo creates every Mario Kart game from scratch, and lately they’ve taken it upon themselves to really put a ton of work into very minor details. Is this strategy good for them, or would it be more beneficial for them (or for us as gamers!) if they put out titles more quickly with less of these details/polish?
AND: A bit of listener mail wraps up the show, as always. Some questions about Nintendo merging consoles and portables for their next system(s), as well as talking about what old Nintendo franchises should be revived. (hint: bring back Project H.A.M.M.E.R.)

Here’s a Podcast – Episode 92!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 12 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: We talk all about the games we played this week, including more Mario Kart from Austin (this week? Double Dash!), some Mario 3D World and WarioWare from Jack, and not too much from Laura! We also get into a brief discussion about how Nintendo is still a little behind in many regards when it comes to their online gaming feature-set, and what we’d like to see improve.
PLUS: Our mid-segement this week hits upon Nintendo’s fairly bare-bones release calendar for Wii U as well as the token discussion of this week’s Tomodachi Life controversy. We think it’s dumb to not have same-sex marriage in the game, but a few interesting points come up that actually go against the hubbub.
AND: Listener mail has us talking about our favorite game ever (well… not Laura’s!), as well as a bit of Smash Bros and Mario Kart discussion. Plus a few other things. And lots of mis-pronouncing of words and phrases. Oh boy.

ON THIS EPISODE: You wanna hear about Nintendo games? We’ve got Nintendo games! Jack talks about Super Mario 3D World, Austin talks about Super Mario Bros. and Mario Golf, and Laura hits a home-run with her discussion of Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball and Elite Beat Agents!
PLUS: Our panel discussion segment has a lot of discussion about Mario Kart 8’s “new” Battle Mode, Nintendo’s E3 plans, and what Austin thinks is the coolest thing Nintendo has done in a while.
AND: We laugh way too much about some really stupid jokes towards the end.

ON THIS EPISODE: Some extensive talk about the Mario Kart series and why each entry isn’t just a copy-paste of the last permeates our first segment, plus some brief talk about Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition and Mario Golf’s demo squeeze in later on.
PLUS: Listener mail is our last segment of the day, in which we discuss what Wii games are good for tiny baby kids, how we feel about Nintendo’s season pass for Mario Golf: World Tour (and their DLC in general), and why Skyward Sword gets so much hate.

Here’s a Podcast – Episode 89!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 2 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: Video games are stupid, so we kick things off by discussing a book called “Earthbound” by Ken Baumann! Both Jack and Austin read it and found it enjoyable, if a little rough in spots. Laura runs through her thoughts on the well-loved Disney Magical World for 3DS, Jack brings in impressions of Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition, and Austin says he thinks Conception II is pretty terrible!
PLUS: Our middle segment is taken up by a discussion of Tomodachi Life, including our thoughts, what we’re looking forward to, and what we’re a bit nervous about.
AND: Listener mail has us answering questions about what quirky JRPGs people should play and whether using restore points on Virtual Console games soils the experience.

Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 2 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: Plenty of games are touched upon in the opening segment of this episode, including Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball, Banjo Kazooie, Guild Wars 2, and The Wind Waker HD. Find out why Rusty is a weirder character than you thought he was, and why Banjo Kazooie may not really be all that fun.
PLUS: As you’d expect, a discussion of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS fills out the middle segment where we discuss our thoughts on the game’s staggered release, the separation of dual-characters, an apparent focus on game balance, and how cool Sakurai is. Where does he find such cool sweaters!?
AND: We end the show with listener mail about Tomadachi Life, what kind of Zelda over-worlds we like, and how to review games! Plus we laugh a lot. That’s good.

Here’s a Podcast – Episode 87!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 0 comments
ON THIS EPISODE: Austin brings to us full (but vague) impressions of the independent game The Plan and Jack talks about the worst Zelda temple ever made. (hint: it’s from The Wind Waker HD)
PLUS: We get down and dirty talking about Mario Kart 8 with our hopes, our fears, and how we feel Mario Kart needs to change or improve its formula for this entry to truly stand out.
AND: Finally, the Book Club discussions on Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward come to a close with an hour-long segment dedicated to the game. We all ended with a similar impression of it, so listen to us talk about the goods, the bads, and the uglies on episode 87!
