SEGA and Double Fine’s The Cave was finally playable on Wii U during a press event last week. On Nintendo’s console, players can expect the GamePad to act as a character selector and means of controlling the camera. If you tap on a character, you’ll jump to them. If you double tap, the camera’s focus moves to them. Characters do not move independently off-screen in the game.
Double Fine’s Chris Remo said the following about the Wii U version of The Cave:
“So other than that, it pretty much plays like all the other versions. We did work really hard to ensure that visually everything you’re seeing is identical to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, so there’s no downscaling, there’s nothing going on that is not up to par with the other next-gen systems. There’s nothing super wacky going on, but it’s a completely full-featured version of the game.”
Bravely Default technically got a sequel in the form of that PC game no one really cared about. But now it seems like Square Enix is gearing up to make a true follow-up to the 3DS game.
Producer Tomoya Asano is looking to receive fan feedback for the next entry. Asano has already come up with a list of 100 questions and suggestions made by fans, and is now asking these same fans how much they would they these ideas become realized. Each point can be answered with “Strongly Agree”, “Agree”, “Disagree”, “Strongly Disagree”, and “Indifferent”.
Square Enix will be closing the questionable on December 20. It will then mull over the feedback received for the next Bravely Default.

This is a role-playing game in which players control a group of fighters that explore fantastical labyrinths. Players engage in turn-based combat against a variety of fantasy creatures (e.g., large insects, slime creatures, sorcerers), selecting moves from a menu-based set of options. Attack moves are accompanied by light effects, bashing sounds, and hit point values. One labyrinth contains a hallway and a door that is stained with blood; a bear is also depicted with red stains on its fur and claws. A few female characters are depicted wearing bikini/low-cut tops that expose deep cleavage; one line of suggestive dialogue states, ‘I gotta lady boner harder dan steel for dat stuff!’ The words “bastard,” “damn,” and “hell” appear in dialogue.
Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, is providing some work for Bit.Trip Presents… Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien. Martinet will voice a total of seven cut-scenes in the game – and he’ll be playing himself.
Polygon explained how the partnership with developer Gaijin games came to be:
“The developers at Gaijin Games say that initially, the plan was for Martinet to play a defined character they had created, but when Martinet showed up and said a few lines in first-person, they decided to lean into it. They compare it to Leonard Nimoy’s appearance in Dreamcast cult favorite Seaman, where Nimoy announced his name at the beginning to crack the fourth wall and make it clear the player was about to try something unusual.”
Gaijin has confirmed that Bit.Trip Presents… Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien will be released in early 2013.
