Let’s quickly talk about Retro Studios, shall we?

First, Eric Kozlowsky’s comment on his blog in which he said “I can’t talk about it too much but if all goes well it might just be one of my crowning achievements as an artist” apparently has nothing to do with gaming. It isn’t related to Retro or a new project.

That’s what he told his followers on Twitter before he closed his account.

Kozlowsky had left this comment on Twitter as well:

“One of my co-workers brought in EVERY season of MST3K! Crunch time is going to be WAY more tolerable this year!”

Some folks have been quick to assume that this means Retro Studios’ new title, whatever it may be, is coming this year. While it’s possible that Nintendo could publish the game in 2012, remember that some staff assisted on the development of Mario Kart 7… that may have cut into their resources a bit. Plus I’m sure Nintendo will want them to polish their new game extensively so that it reaches a high level of quality.

We’ll see what happens…

Most Nintendo fans logically assumed that the next round of Wii U news wouldn’t be revealed until E3. There’s a small glimmer of hope that new information may be provided before June, though.

According to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo “will be sharing information throughout the entire year.” And although he couldn’t guarantee that an update will come before E3, it’s possible that we’ll get a few tidbits before the company’s big press conference.

Fils-Aime told Geoff Keighley at CES:

“So essentially we will be sharing information throughout the entire year. And so, I won’t say that you’re going to have to wait until E3, but certainly we’re not breaking new news here. No launch date, no launch price, no game lineup. …But we will be sharing a lot of information all through the year on how we will be driving Wii U into households this year.”

Lately, fans have been wondering if the Wii U will be able to keep up with Sony and Microsoft’s next round of consoles. The Wii U may have a leg up on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 when it launches this year, but there is some doubt that it will be a competitive piece of hardware for the next few years.

The thing is, Nintendo simply isn’t concerned about the competition.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, when asked if the Wii U will be competitive in the long run, said that “we don’t care what the gaming competitors are doing.” The company is more concerned about being able to “drive a great new experience that’s going to be compelling”.

Fils-Aime said the following during a Spike TV interview at CES:

“So, you know, we’re fortune that we drive our own innovation agenda. We don’t care what any of the… we don’t care what the gaming competitors are doing. We don’t care what’s happening in the broader entertainment landscape. What we’re looking to do is drive a great new experience that’s going to be compelling, that’s going to have consumers say, ‘I have to buy the Wii U to get this new experience.'”

It seems that Retro Studios has added staff from Naughty Dog and Vigil Games within the past few months or so. Eric Kozlowsky and Gray Ginther are now part a part of the company.

Kozlowsky, who worked on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, joined Retro in June 2011. Ginther, meanwhile, was the lead character artist on Darksiders.

Kozlowsky left a small tease on his blog as to what Retro Studioshas in store for its next game. He noted that he couldn’t talk about it too much, “but if all goes well it might just be one of my crowning achievements as an artist….”

“Alas I am going to shelve it for a little while as I am going to work on another project that I am super excited about. I can’t talk about it too much but if all goes well it might just be one of my crowning achievements as an artist….”

Other new employees at Retro include Nestor Hernandez (ex-Red Fly Studios designer) and Dominic Pallotta (Moonbot Studios).

A North American release date for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D has been announced. The game will arrive on February 21. Earlier today, Konami confirmed that it’s set for a March 8 release in Europe.

Hideo Kojima’s Epic Game Heads to Nintendo 3DS™ This February

Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. today announced METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D Nintendo 3DS™ will be released on February 21, 2012. METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D is a reworked update of the original best-selling PlayStation®2 title, bringing the immersive jungle setting to life using the Nintendo 3DS glasses-free 3D imaging system. KONAMI has also confirmed that the new game will also make use of the new Circle Pad Pro accessory, and has revealed the packshot for the first time.

METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D is set during the Cold War of the 60s, and sees series hero Snake infiltrating the Soviet jungle to bring back a scientist being held against his will. Starting on the outskirts of a military base, the player must use Snake’s stealth skills along with the foliage and shade that the jungle offers as cover to infiltrate unseen. As the game progresses, old faces make unwelcome appearances and a series of terrifying boss characters must be defeated before leading up to a dramatic twist that brings Snake face to face with a key figure from his past.
