Last year, Nintendo’s E3 boxes were all the rage. Photos of these items were taken a couple of days before the Big N’s press conference, contribution to a rise in hype.

Good news, folks – the boxes are back! No, they really don’t show anything, but it’s still amusing. Plus, there’s a twist this year: there are Nintendo vehicles driving around Los Angeles!

Remember how Satoru Iwata was tweeting during E3 last year? Well, he’s back, and he’ll be doing the same thing for this year’s expo.

According to Nintendo of America’s Twitter account:

“Nintendo’s Global President will be guest tweeting in our #IwataSays series throughout #E3, beginning Monday!”

You can follow the NOA Twitter here. If Iwata tweets anything interesting, we’ll post it here.

Nintendo of America posted the image above to its Twitter account just a few minutes ago. Nintendo’s “big three” – Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Iwata, and Reggie Fils-Aime – have all landed in Los Angeles. They’re ready for that show, and that photo is pretty darn awesome.

Update: Nintendo of America’s Twitter account says tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct “focuses on the concept behind Wii U”. Games are coming on Tuesday, so tomorrow’s show will probably focus on the other details behind the system.

Nintendo is pulling a surprising move by holding a new “Nintendo Direct” presentation just a day before E3, and just two days before its media briefing. President Satoru Iwata will be on hand to present Wii U news.

According to Nintendo UK’s Twitter account, the event will take place at 23:00 GMT / 24:00 CET. That’s 6 PM EDT and 3 PM PDT.

You’ll be able to watch the pre-recorded presentation here.

We’ll have the latest information here for you as usual. This should be a good one…

A Mario game will launch alongside Wii U, according to Geoff Keighley.

The GameTrailers TV host was asked about a new Mario for the console during a recent Spike All Access Weekly show.

Keighley responded with the following:

“Yeah, that’s another one that’s rumored. I’m pretty sure you’re going to see it. Nintendo did a Zelda game last year for the Wii, so I don’t think you’ll see another Zelda this year. I’m sure there’s going to be some twists to it, but yes, Mario will be on the Wii U at launch.”

The question is, was Keighley basing his comment off of any insider knowledge? Is it just a prediction? We know Mario Wii U will be at E3, and that automatically makes it a strong candidate as a launch title.

Look forward to more information about Nintendo’s Wii U Mario plans during its E3 2012 media briefing on Tuesday.
