REDMOND, Wash., March 7, 2011 – The vast, wildly imaginative world of Pokémon™ just got bigger and more immersive than ever before. The new Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems are now available in stores across the United States, inviting players of any age or experience level to discover more than 150 new Pokémon to catch, train and battle, as well as new battle systems, new wireless features and a new world to explore. For longtime Pokémon fans, the games offer a rich and expansive new chapter in the popular series. This week’s new downloadable games for Nintendo systems invite you to “have a blast” in more ways than one. Heavy Fire: Black Arms for the WiiWare™ service puts players at the center of an explosive, action-filled adventure as they take on the role of a Special Forces recruit. On the Virtual Console™ service, Bomberman Hero lets Wii™ owners enjoy classic and combustible fun from the Nintendo 64™ era. New arrivals for the Nintendo DSiWare™ service include GO Series EARTH SAVER, which challenges players to blast apart a deadly meteorite that threatens all of humanity. And if your taste runs beyond pyrotechnics, you’ll also find soccer, gymnastics and squishy driving action in this week’s lively mix of downloads.
Here we are at the end of the road. The last Nintendo system in my collection is the Wii. This time around, I bought many of the major titles released on the system. Metroid: Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and the Super Mario Galaxy games are among the list of titles that I’ve added to my purchased.
I obtained a Wii in 2008, which was, as most of you know, a few years after the system had launched. At the time I only owned a few games. A lot of them were terrible, admittedly. But the highlights were Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Brawl, like Melee, was a massive time sink for me. I used to hold small tournaments and parties focusing on the game. Despite the fact that I greatly enjoyed the title, I personally believe that it still doesn’t compare to Melee, my favorite of the series.
These are probably the largest screenshots we’ve seen of a 3DS game thus far. I have no idea why they’ve been blown up like this, though they do look quite good!
Even though two full months in 2011 have passed, there really aren’t any Wii games to look forward to that have been announced by Nintendo of America. We know Skyward Sword will be released sometime this year… but what else? Well, we’re still not sure, but more software is definitely coming.
IGN’s Rich George, who participated in the latest Game Scoop podcast, briefly discussed a recent conversation he had with Reggie Fils-Aime. Basically, Nintendo of America’s COO said that more Wii games are on the way. Reggie’s full response is expected to be posted on IGN sometime within the next few days.
This year, Nintendo has only launched Mario Sports Mix for Wii, and have yet to announce additional software for the console. A couple of titles could be revealed through a simple press release, although the heavy hitters will most likely be saved for E3. It’s possible that Nintendo will localize two well-received RPGs for the system – Xenoblade and The Last Story – and/or release the new Kirby Wii title before 2011 ends. It’s likely that the company has a few secret titles in the works as well.
