Players Become the In-Game Hero in Adventure to Save Stolen Identity

GUILDFORD, England–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts, Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced the launch of Foto FaceTM: The Face Stealer Strikes, a new Nintendo DSiWare™ title that gives players the ability to put themselves into the game and sends them on a wild, adventurous quest to reclaim their own stolen identity. Leveraging the unique features of the Nintendo DSi™ system, players use the camera and microphone to capture their face and voice to become an in-game character. Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes will be available on the DSiWare store in North America from today, November 30th, and in the rest of the world from Friday, December 4th.

“Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes is a great example of how EA is pushing the boundaries of innovative and creative gameplay,” said Harvey Elliott, Vice President and General Manager Casual, EA Play Label. “By using Nintendo DSi features such as the camera, we’ve significantly deepened the experience by allowing players to personalize the adventure in fun and quirky ways that will deliver hours of entertainment.”

In Ubisoft’s first-half 2009-20 results release, the company commented on the sales of their Wii products. While Ubisoft launched a number of different products such as Rabbids Go Home, Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage, they have yet to achieve substantial success on the platform. Here’s what Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, had to say…

“First week sales of Assassin’s Creed II, up 32%, with positive initial indications for the second week, combined with an overwhelmingly warm reception from gamers, validates our strategy of developing bigger franchises. Based on this initial data, Assassin’s Creed 2 looks well positioned to outstrip targets while our Wii games have got off to a more contrasted start in a less predictable market. Finally, sales of James Cameron’s Avatar : The Game should benefit from the launch of the movie which is expected to be the biggest blockbuster of this holiday season.”

“Technology actually was not a major concern for us when we decided to use the train. In The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, the boat was the key mode of transportation. Now that Spirit Tracks takes place on land, we needed a new way for players to get around, and felt that the train offered the best sense of exploration and discovery. We don’t think it feels out of place in the game world. Trains are also a popular mode of transportation in Japan. My children and I still feel a great sense of adventure when we ride trains in Japan. Regarding use of other forms in technology in the future, as long it adds to the overall game experience and is something we feel the player would enjoy, we wouldn’t be afraid to implement it. As a matter of fact, we have used the Hook Shot in several previous games, which would be considered a very modern type of technology, even by today’s standards.” – Eiji Aonuma

When you think about all of the Zelda games, the technology used in the series has become more modernized as additional titles were released. To be honest, I was a little surprised when the first trailer of Spirit Tracks was released, which showcased the train. Is there any piece of technology in particular you guys would like to see in a Zelda game?
