It’s time for the newest North American Nintendo Download report for the week of July 4, 2024. The latest releases include The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak, Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero, and more.
Here’s the full roundup:
Many of Nintendo’s top (or most well-known) developers have been with the company for a few decades. It’s tough to say, but they’re getting older as well.
The good news is that Nintendo doesn’t seem to be worried about handing things over to the younger generation. Speaking about it during the company’s shareholders meeting last week, president Shuntaro Furukawa said the transition “is progressing smoothly” and he’s not at all concerned.
Miyamoto echoed those sentiments as well. He also brought up how Nintendo has “a system in place that allows younger developers to take the initiative”. Miyamoto would go on to say that he’d “like to be able to hand things over to an even younger generation.”
The full translation of their comments read as follows:
Recently, Nintendo was asked about its take regarding increased game development times. President Shuntaro Furukawa, along with executive officer Takashi Tezuka and senior managing officer Shinya Takahashi commented on the situation.
One notable remark came from Furukawa, who said that Nintendo is “expanding our development resources and making the necessary investments.” Meanwhile, Takahashi said the company is “steadily improving the development environment following the release of the hardware”, which can shorten development cycles. Also, Tezuka indicated that some future games will take longer, but others are expected to have a shorter development period.

During Nintendo’s shareholders meeting last week, an attendee asked about the company’s stance on generative AI. President Shuntaro Furukawa weighed in with a few thoughts.
Generative AI seems like it’s here to stay, but it’s not without its issues and controversies. Since it’s now even being used by some companies during game development, you might be curious as to what Nintendo’s stance is.
