Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Bethesda confirmed two new games for Switch during the most recent Nintendo Direct. Along with Doom, the publisher is also bringing Wolfenstein II to the console.

We haven’t heard too much about what we can expect from Wolfenstein II. That isn’t too surprising, however. Doom is on track for this holiday while Wolfenstein II has a general “2018” launch window.

GameSpot did manage to get a few words out of creative director Jens Matthies in a recent interview. The site first asked about the Switch version in general, to which Matthies stated:

We’ve seen footage of Doom running on Switch, but only with off-screen videos. Fortunately, some screenshots have appeared giving us a clear look in direct-feed. Take a look at the images below.

We still have a couple of months to go (roughly) until The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim hits Switch. However, the game’s file size is already in.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will take up 14.3GB of space. That’s according to a listing on the European eShop, which was just recently updated.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launches for Switch on November 17.

The Super NES Classic Edition has launched around the world. Bethesda has taken notice, and is celebrating in its own special way. The company thought about what the boxart for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim could have looked like had it been on the SNES – see the image above.

Another 15 minutes of footage is in showing Doom on Switch in fairly decent visual / audio quality. See the latest video below.

Bethesda has slowly rolled out information about Doom’s performance on Switch. Yesterday we found out that the game runs at 30 frames per second, at least officially anyway. Rolling Stone, who shared that information, managed to obtain some additional details from Bethesda as well.

First, Doom’s resolution is 720p on Switch. That’s regardless of which mode you’re playing in – docked or portable. Both are the same.

Bethesda also says that Doom won’t have any motion controls on Switch. The functionality is being added for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but it won’t be present in Doom.

The first hands-on impressions for Doom on Switch were reported yesterday. One of the things we heard is that the performance is 30 frames per second.

Just in case you had any doubt, Bethesda has confirmed that the FPS count is correct. Rolling Stone obtained the following statement from the publisher:

After working at Capcom and being involved with many Resident Evil games over the years, Shinji Mikami founded his own studio Tango Gameworks back in 2010. He then partnered with Bethesda and went back to his survival roots to create The Evil Within. Next month, that game is getting a sequel.

In an interview with Mikami, GameSpot asked potentially bringing the game to Switch. He said in response:
