Japan

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood came out in Japan on January 15. In its first week, the game sold just 24,000 copies. Media Create says that it sold through only 45.07 percent of its initial shipment.

Kenka Bancho has mainly been a PlayStation franchise. The last numbered release, Kenka Bancho 5, sold 59,000 copies (60.75 percent sell-through) during its first week in January 2011. Not only were initial sales halved with Kenka Bancho 6, but the sell-through rate was lower as well.

The decline of Kenka Bancho sales has been in effect for quite some time. Kenka Bancho 4 sold 72,000 units in its first week. Since then, the franchise has continued to see lower and lower sales.

Media Create offers some insight into Kenka Bancho’s decline. The main reason seems to be that as the series is extended by new installments, the age demographic of buyers increase as well, causing the scale to narrow. The sales scale therefore has a tendency to get reduced. It’s also possible that many fans of the series refrained from changing their hardware.

This week’s expanded Japanese software sales are as follows:

During a recent event for Rodea: The Sky Soldier in Japan, a bit more was shared on the revitalization of the title.

As many of you know, Rodea was first announced for Wii and 3DS back in January 2011. It disappeared after a few months and it wasn’t until November 2014 that it resurfaced again. People didn’t believe that Rodea would see a release before the game re-emerged at the time.

Siliconera has reported another round of Pokken Tournament details that were shared during today’s stream. We’ve rounded up the information below.

– Choose support Pokemon at the start of each round
– These can be used at any time
– Support Pokemon have a cool-down period
– Lapras shows in footage appearing from the side, and it covered a wide area with its Surf attack, although it got blocked
– Pokemon select screen shown (see above)
– It shows Snivy with a Leaf Tornado attack, and its charge time marked as “Fast”. Lapras’ shows Surf with a charge time of “Normal”
– Namco has shown Support Pokémon of Pachirisu and Fennekin as a “Set A,” and Snivy and Lapras as “Set B”
– Unknown whether you can mix/match Support Pokemon or if they’ll come as sets
– “Phase Change”: makes the camera angles look more like a 2D fighter with a side-view during battle
– There are certain moves that can force a Phase Change as well
– “Burst Mode”: temporary power up where Pokemon go into their Mega-forms
– Those without Mega versions get a similar power up
– In the demonstration, Namco showed Lucario going into his Mega-form, while Pikachu got an power-up with an electric aura
– Can easily pull off special attacks; no complicated commands
– This is also another reason why it was made possible to play the game on a simple controller, instead of an arcade stick
– The stage description for one of the battle arenas was shown in English
