February 2016 NPD: Fire Emblem Fates sales breakdown by version, Project X Zone 2
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 16 Comments
We have a few more bits of information regarding Fire Emblem Fates’ debut sales in the United States, along with data for a crossover 3DS title.
Nintendo confirmed earlier today that Fates sold close to 400,000 copies between Birthright and Conquest in February, with digital sales included. NPD leaker creamsugar puts the games at a combined 315,000 units sold – less than Nintendo’s amount since eShop sales aren’t accounted for here. Birthright sold the most with 44 percent (roughly 138,600), followed by Conquest at 41 percent (roughly 129,150) and the special edition at 15 percent (roughly 47,250).
Moving on, debut sales are in for Project X Zone 2. The game sold 18,000 copies in the United States last month – not counting any eShop sales.
Note that Fire Emblem Fates and Project X Zone 2 did not have a full month of sales since they launched during the middle of February. NPD’s February reporting period ended on February 27.
Thanks to Brian for the tip.

February 2016 NPD: Nintendo’s response – FE Fates sells nearly 400,000 copies, Pokemon breaks first-week eShop record
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, 3DS eShop, News | 8 Comments
Nintendo has issued a response to the latest NPD sales report. There’s even more good news regarding Fire Emblem Fates’ performance in the U.S. last month as well as the classic Pokemon re-releases on the eShop.
First, Nintendo says that Fire Emblem Fates sold nearly 400,000 copies when combining physical and digital versions. “This far outpaces 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening game, the series’ previous record-holder in the United States,” according to the company.
In other news, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow on the 3DS eShop broke the first-week sales record. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS previously held this achievement.

February 2016 NPD: top 10 best-selling games in the U.S. – Fire Emblem at #9

Update: GamesBeat added this quote to its article from NPD analyst Liam Callahan:
“If sales for Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, and the special edition for Fire Emblem Fates were combined, this title would have ranked third for new physical software sales. The combined first month sales of Fire Emblem Fates would more than triple the first month sales of the next-highest game within the franchise, Fire Emblem: Awakening.”
NPD Group has released a listing of the top ten best-selling games in the U.S. for the month of February 2016. The results can be found below.
1. Far Cry: Primal (PS4, Xbox One)
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
3. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
4. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm (PS4, Xbox One)
5. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
6. Lego Marvel Avengers (360, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PS3, 3DS, Vita)
7. Street Fighter V (PS4)
8. Minecraft (360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3)
9. Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (3DS)
10. Fallout 4 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
It’s important to note that Fire Emblem Fates’ placement on the chart is only based on Birthright’s sales, which outsold Conquest. If you count Conquest and the special edition, Fates would have been closer to the top. I’m sure Nintendo is very pleased with how the games are selling in the United States thus far.

More information is in from this month’s NPD report. We have sales data from the United States for one of Nintendo’s systems as well as two games.
First, in terms of hardware, Wii U sold roughly 40,000 units. Debut sales for Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and Final Fantasy Explorers also came in at 71,000 and 53,000 copies respectively.
With the games, it’s important to remember that digital sales are not included. They also launched pretty late in January, so they only have about a week of data.

Leaks from NPD reveal that Xenoblade Chronicles X sold over 200,000 copies in the United States last month. Devil’s Third, on the other hand, had sales over 3,000 units. Neither figure includes digital sales.
The same source has also come through with lifetime sales figures for a multitude of 3DS and Wii U titles. December 2015 NPD: Wii U has second-best month in terms of new physical software sales
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 12 Comments
From a Nintendo perspective, there’s not too much to report on from the latest NPD sales. Wii U and 3DS games were completely absent from the December chart as well as overall top 10 sales in 2015. However, GamesBeat did manage to obtain an interesting piece of information from analyst Liam Callahan.
Callahan said that Wii U experienced its second-best month “in terms of new physical software unit sales.” The holiday season likely played a big role in that, as well as games such as Super Mario Maker.
December 2015 NPD: Super Mario Maker has sold over 1 million copies in the U.S.

Update: No separate post for the top 10 in December. No Wii U/3DS game (including third-parties) made the list unfortunately. Same goes for the full 2015 year top 10.
Super Mario Maker has sold over one million copies in the United States alone, Nintendo has announced. That news comes as part of the December 2015 NPD report, which we should be hearing more about shortly.
Five other Wii U games have also reached Super Mario Maker’s milestone. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Splatoon have all sold more than one million copies in the United States.
