The latest Japanese hardware sales from Famitsu are as follows:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A new report from SuperData reveals that Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold five million digital copies worldwide in March. With that success, the Switch title broke the console record for monthly digital game sales. Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII previously held that record.

SuperData further reports that Animal Crossing: New Horizons “also roughly matched the first-month digital sales of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokemon Sword and Shield put together.”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been in high demand with more people staying in home due to the coronavirus. It also helps that the franchise has proven successful in the past.

Nintendo Switch

According to the latest NPD report, which tracks sales data in the U.S., Switch has set a new all-time record for hardware unit sales in a March month. Switch also had the previous record, which was earned at launch in March 2017.

That’s not the only piece of good news for Switch. The system has generated the highest first quarter unit sales for any hardware platform since the DS in the first quarter of 2010, the NPD report reveals.

Overall gaming sales in the U.S. increased by 63 percent year-over-year to $461 million. Switch hardware sales more than doubled when compared to a year ago.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

More news has emerged from the March 2020 NPD report, and it’s brought along even more impressive information about Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The Switch game has achieved the third-highest launch month of any Nintendo published game in tracked history. That goes for both physical dollar and unit sales. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are the only two games that sold more during their launch months.

Also revealed is that launch month dollar sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons have exceeded the lifetime sales of all other Animal Crossing franchise games. The Switch entry is already the best-selling game in franchise history.
