A new update was posted to the Japanese Twitter account for Splatoon 2. In a brief message added to the page, we’re given confirmation that the game will feature eight stages upon release that can be experienced in multiplayer.

The Reef, Mussleforge Fitness, Inkblot Art Academy, Humpback Pump Track, Starfish Mainstage, Port Mackerel, Sturgeon Shipyard, Moray Towers are in. We do know that Nintendo will be adding more stages down the road, with overall content updates planned for about a year.

Splatoon 2 will have more stages available than its predecessor at launch. For the original game, Nintendo offered just five stages.

One of the best things about the original Splatoon when it first rolled onto store shelves a few years back was how it was never afraid to be itself. When creating a new IP, Nintendo didn’t choose to play it safe and instead provided completely new gameplay we had never seen before and a booming world to dive into like no other. It’s no wonder fans took an immediate liking to the concept, and throughout its near two years of support, players kept coming back. It makes perfect sense that Nintendo rolled out a sequel just in time for the Switch’s first year to put a “fresh” IP in the spotlight once again, but does this sequel provide enough to justify the 2, or does it provide “2” little?

Nintendo is producing a new round of amiibo for Splatoon 2, but the original figures from the first game are compatible as well. You can get special gear, pose for photos, and save loadouts and settings. You can see the original amiibo being scanned into Splatoon 2 below.

Splatoon 2 appears to dish out temporary punishments for repeated disconnects. After disconnecting online four times due to issues with their connection, player hypwnotic received the message above. It warns that you’ll be unable to play online “for a while” due to play sessions not ending “naturally”.

This was with the Splatfest World Premiere demo, but this should carry over to the final game as well. It could be a useful tool against ragequitters, but could be a problem with those with faulty internet connections. When playing online, you should try to make sure you’re on a stable connection to avoid any potential issues.
