Splatoon 2

With all the new weapons, maps, songs etc being added to Splatoon 2, it’s probably not the biggest surprise that we’ll be getting some new clothing brands as well. The Japanese Splatoon Twitter account has now officially revealed the first one – “Emperi” (or possibly “Empery”). It’s described as a casual, sporty street fashion brand and judging by the screenshot above, it certainly fits that image.

Today, the Japanese Splatoon Twitter account highlighted a small change being made to Roller weapons in Splatoon 2. If you keep ZR pressed for a certain amount of time while moving around, you get a slight speed boost. This should help Roller players with covering more turf and with more easily closing the distance to opposing players.

Did you know that, in the Splatoon canon, the songs on the game’s soundtrack are considered to be produced and performed by in-universe musicians and bands? Obviously everyone knows about the Squid Sisters, but there are more beyond that. It seems like this tradition will continue in Splatoon 2 – Nintendo just revealed the track “Rip Entry” performed by the band “Wet Floor”. Give it a listen:

A brand new stage for Splatoon 2 has been revealed on the series’ official Japanese Twitter account. Today, we have a look at the Diadema Amphitheater.

This is a facility used for concerts from various artists. The legendary Squid Squad band also used to hold concerts here, and this is known as the holy place for rock music. Some may be worried that the machinery may get damaged due to the ink, but there are already proper countermeasures to prevent that from happening.

Here’s a look at the stage:

Splatoon 2 producer Hisashi Nogami shared a bunch of information about the game in an interview with 4Gamer last week. Famitsu published its own interview with Nogami in the magazine’s latest issue, and surprisingly, had a ton more to say.

First, Nogami went in-depth about what’s planned for Splatoon 2 in terms of weapons. He also further clarified how Switch’s new mobile app will work for online play, spoke about improving the visuals this time around, and confirmed HD Rumble. If that wasn’t enough, Nogami also noted that Splatoon on Wii U won’t have its online play discontinued anytime soon.

You can continue on below for our full translation (note: some small parts omitted due to being covered in the 4Gamer post, old, or not being relevant to anything). Strap yourselves in, since this is a pretty lengthy one.

Before Splatoon released for Wii U, Nintendo made something known as the “Splatoon Global Testfire”. It was a limited online demo which allowed fans to get a taste for what the game had to offer at certain days / times. For Splatoon 2, Nintendo has announced that this will be returning.

Splatoon 2 Global Testfire will be hosted in late March. Players will be able to try out four different main weapons, including the new Splat Dualies, plus remixed versions of the iconic Splat Roller and Splat Charger.

The relevant days / times for Splatoon 2 Global Testfire are as follows:

Nintendo introduced Splatoon 2’s new Private Battle Spectator View last night. Since then, a video has been published showing the feature in-depth. See it below.

It’s already known that in Splatoon 2, up to eight Switch systems can be connected through local wireless. But on the series’ Tumblr page, Nintendo spoke about another secret LAN Play feature. This can be used to connect eight docked systems using a wired LAN setup. In doing so, you can participate in local Private Battle tournaments without connecting to the internet.

Nintendo adds:

“If you’re willing to put in the work to set up LAN Play, you can also use the Private Battle Spectator View feature by hooking up two additional Nintendo Switch systems. Local wireless play is perfect for your regular gaming get-togethers, but LAN Play is where it’s at when you want to organize a serious tournament event with your fellow players.”

Update: Here’s the news from Nintendo of America:

Original: Nintendo just shared an important piece of news about Splatoon 2 on the series’ official Twitter page.

Splatoon 2 has a “Private Battle Spectator View”, or basically a spectator mode. Other than the first eight participants who are playing, the ninth and tenth players can join as cameramen to view the battle. They can switch between bird’s-eye view and other players’ third-person views.

Two people can act as cameramen. If they wanted to, they could live stream using the special mode view, and could be broadcasters or commentators like a baseball game or Splatoon Koshien tournament. You also can show the turf map, so you can switch between each cameraman’s role, like one cameraman showing each player’s view while the other shows the map to determine how the battle is going.

Here’s a brief look at the functionality:
