Super Mario Run

Nintendo has given Super Mario Run another small update. As of today, version 1.1.2 is available. Nintendo says that the patch simply implements bug fixes.

Nintendo will be conducting maintenance on Super Mario Maker for a few hours tomorrow. A notice has been sent out to players about the downtime as a warning of sorts. If you’re playing a stage when maintenance begins, coins earned during the stage and your Toad Rally results may not be saved.

According to Nintendo, the maintenance will happen between 20:00 – 23:00. A timezone isn’t specified, but it should take place in the evening in North America on February 20, and during the early hours on February 21 in Europe.

Super Mario Run wrapped up a Friendly Run event about a month ago. Now it’s back, allowing players to earn Rally Tickets each day while getting some practice in and challenging friends.

This latest event runs until March 2 at 1:59 AM. Note that Friendly Run can still only be played a limited number of times a day, and it requires at least one friend on your friend list.

Nintendo has brought out a small update for Super Mario Run, bringing the game up to version 1.1.1. It’s small in nature, as it only appears to implement bug fixes. You’ll need 167 MB for the download.

It goes without saying that Super Mario Run’s update is only for iOS users. The mobile title has yet to launch on Android, although that’ll be changing next month.

Super Mario Run players are being given a 2,222 coin gift in celebration of Fire Emblem Heroes’ release. Players only need to log in to Super Mario Run to claim their coins, and they do not need to have downloaded Fire Emblem Heroes.

Super Mario Run has added in the Gold Goomba Event and Easy Mode this week. Footage of both shared by GameXplain can be found below.

Super Mario Run is featuring a new event, the “Mega Event! Gold Goomba!” In this event, Gold Goombas will appear on certain levels in World Tour. Jumping on these Goombas will earn a bonus 30 coins, as well as fill in a space on a special stamp card. By earning 20 of these stamps, players will earn a unique building, and, by completing multiple stamp cards, will get more buildings. The prizes are as follows:

  • Complete 1 Stamp Card: Gold Goomba Statue
  • Complete 2 Stamp Cards: Gold Goomba Statue x2
  • Complete 3 Stamp Cards: Gold Goomba Statue x3
  • Complete 4 Stamp Cards: Big Gold Goomba Statue

Your course ranking will not be affected by taking on Gold Goomba courses. The event runs until February 20, and you can see a few images of its features below:

This information comes from Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima…

First, I would like to once again state Nintendo’s three main goals for our smart-device business. We would like to utilize smart devices as a platform to reach the maximum number of consumers with our IP. It is a prerequisite that the smart-device business be profitable on its own. We also aim to generate synergy with our dedicated video game systems business to maximize the potential of Nintendo’s overall business strategies. I have also shared in the past that we strive to ensure that each title we release for smart devices provides a high-quality game experience that is optimized for smart devices.

Following these principles, we released a new type of Mario game that you can play with one hand, Super Mario Run. It launched on iPhone and iPad in December. This release was not limited to the countries and regions in which we have offered products and services through our dedicated video game system business, and it reached a wide range of consumers worldwide. As we shared through a previous press release, in its first four days Super Mario Run was downloaded more than 40 million times, a record speed for the App Store. Since then, downloads have maintained a strong pace, and as of today the application has reached 78 million downloads.

Super Mario Run never allowed for true Family Sharing similar to other downloads on iOS. However, players did find a useful workaround last month. With the latest Super Mario Run update, however, it’s been entirely disabled.

Super Mario Run is now entirely downloaded to the device where it originated from. Unfortunately, that means it can’t be shared with family (or anyone else).

Super Mario Run can now be upgraded to version 1.1.0 on iOS. Below are the changes and additions to this version (thanks Perfectly Nintendo for the translation):

  • Added Easy Mode, which slows down levels and gives you unlimited time and bubbles; however you can’t keep any coins you collect
  • Added a new event
  • Added Korean language support
  • Reduced the number of Toads lost when losing in Toad Rally. Toads are now easier to collect
  • Removed limit on number of times the “Toad” My Nintendo reward can be received to resolve the issue where Toad cannot be received again if, after already having already received the reward, user data is deleted
  • Fixed several other issues
