Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS

If comments from a Nintendo customer service representative are anything to go by, fans should be able to submit “any video-game character” for the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. That would include third-party characters, which some thought weren’t be an option with a recent Facebook post from Nintendo.

Here’s what the customer service representative wrote to one fan:

Thanks for writing to us. I can certainly understand your interest in if third-party characters are eligible for the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. I want to assure you that you are able to submit any video-game character for this ballot. While we are unable to guarantee your suggested character will become a Super Smash Bros. Fighter, rest assured, we do take all feedback into consideration.

I never consider what’s said by a Nintendo customer service representative to be the final word on anything, but this is certainly encouraging!

During this week’s Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that there is now a Fighter Ballot for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. Fans across the world can submit votes for characters they’d like to see in the game, and Nintendo will take feedback into account when developing new roster additions.

There is one important thing that we may have to consider if a Facebook post from Nintendo is any indication. The post below has been making the rounds lately, which seems to indicate that the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot may only be limited to first-party Nintendo characters.

If the above post is what many people are currently assuming, then Nintendo won’t be considering any third-party characters. So much for Banjo!

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

It’s unlikely to happen, but Xbox boss Phil Spencer seems very much open to the idea of Banjo being included in the next round of Smash Bros. DLC.

Spencer told on fan on Twitter today:

Let’s just say that Nintendo was also open to featuring Banjo in the upcoming Smash Bros. DLC. Is that something you guys would like to see happen?

Mewtwo is coming to Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS on April 28, Nintendo has announced. Pricing is set at

Update version 1.0.6 is also in the works. It includes:

– downloadable content
– tweaked character balancing
– sharing functionality on Wii U

Yesterday, a short video surfaced in which Masahiro Sakurai stated that Mewtwo DLC for Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS was nearly finished and will be released “pretty soon”. But that wasn’t the only significant piece of information shared by Sakurai.

According to Sakurai, Takamaru from The Mysterious Murasame Castle was initially considered as a fighter for the new Smash Bros. entries. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut due to the perceived lack of familiarity among Nintendo fans. This took place before development on Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS actually began.

We’ll also mention that Sakurai is aware of the crazy Miiverse requests for fighters, like Goku and SpongeBob. Naturally, there’s no way such characters would make it into Smash Bros.

Masahiro Sakurai, director of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, provided an updated on the upcoming Mewtwo DLC at a recent event in Japan. Thankfully, it sounds like it won’t be too much longer before the character becomes available.

Sakurai said that work on Mewtwo “is pretty much done” and the DLC will be released “pretty soon.” Fans are advised to wait for an announcement from Nintendo.
