Switch is no spring chicken anymore as it’s coming up on its sixth anniversary. Simply because of its age, one would expect sales to begin trickling off.

Nintendo president Shuntaru Furukawa did acknowledge that Switch is entering “uncharted territory in the history of our dedicated video game platforms” during the company’s latest financial briefing. However, he still believes there’s room for sales to grow given “both new demand and multiple system demand for the hardware”. Nintendo will be looking to create new demand with new games plus “working further to convey the appeal of existing titles.”

Best of Nintendo Direct February 2023

February is usually special for Nintendo fans, as it typically spells the ringing of a new Direct. That held true with yesterday’s presentation, as Nintendo revealed its upcoming slate for the first half of the year with quite a few surprises to come over the next few months.

As the Nintendo Direct was happening, Sam and I reacted to some of the best reveals, including Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime Remastered, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Check out our highlights video below.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe new characters

In the flood of news this week stemming from the latest Nintendo Direct, something fans may have missed is that the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC will be adding even more returning characters in the future.

For the first three waves, only new tracks were added. However, for the fourth round, Nintendo announced that Birdo is on the way. Confirmation of even more characters were confirmed in the Nintendo Direct recap we posted, but that was something may probably missed. We should be seeing at least two more roster additions later in 2023.

It’s time for the newest North American Nintendo Download report for the week of February 9, 2023. The latest releases include Metroid Prime Remastered, Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society, Blanc, and more.

Nintendo $70 comment

Nintendo made it official today that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will cost $70, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sign of things to come. Game Informer managed to get a couple of comments from the company about the situation that may clarify things slightly.

As for why the new Zelda game is priced the way it is, Nintendo simply stated: “We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on a case-by-case basis.” Game Informer also asked if this is the trend for Nintendo games in the future, to which the Big N said: “No. We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on a case-by-case basis.”

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg

Today, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust announced Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg for Switch. Although it was first unveiled in a Japanese Nintendo Direct and wasn’t present elsewhere, we have confirmation that it’s arriving worldwide this summer.

Koei Tecmo will provide additional details during the Atelier Series 25th Anniversary Program #4. This will be happening on February 20.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe preview

Nintendo recently held a short media preview demo for Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe ahead of its upcoming release on Switch. The original Wii game is an all-time Kirby classic, so having it on the hybrid platform at all is compelling. Set to release on February 24, 2023, the title is soon to hit store shelves without us knowing a ton about what’s new.

In this video preview, Sam and I have an in-depth discussion about some of the game’s new features, visuals, and gameplay. We’ve included further bulleted highlights below.
