dolphin steam emulator cancelled

The team behind the Dolphin emulator has cancelled plans for release on Steam following the initial announcement in March.

A lengthy post was made on the software’s website today. It was explained that, ultimately, “given Nintendo’s long-held stance on emulation, we find Valve’s requirement for us to get approval from Nintendo for a Steam release to be impossible.” Also reconfirmed is that Nintendo never actually sent a DMCA takedown notice, but Valve’s legal department reached out to Nintendo, and a lawyer for the Big N requested Valve prevent the Steam release.

Developer Blue Volcano have announced that they will be bringing Side Decide to Switch via the eShop. The title is set to launch worldwide next month on August 3. A wooden block based puzzle game, the objective is to roll the block across the board in the fewest possible moves across 121 different levels. The game will also feature ratings for added challenge.

Metroid Prime 2 Zelda rumor

According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, it may not be long until we see Metroid Prime 2 Remastered, and there’ll be something else happening with Zelda before the year is over.

Grubb was speaking about what he’s heard in the latest episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast. Regarding Metroid Prime 2, while it will now be in HD and with modern controls, “it’s not gonna get the love and care that Metroid Prime got”.

Pikmin 4 Oatchi

The space dog Oatchi is a brand new addition for Pikmin 4, and Nintendo has now discussed its origins while also providing other interesting insight. This comes as part of an official interview published today.

The company’s Yuji Kando revealed that one idea that came about early on was letting players control a Bulborb. Continuing on from that, Nintendo then considered letting players “ride and control various creatures in the story”. However, “it became difficult to weave it all into a coherent game.” Oatchi was born from these ideas.
