3DS

Capcom’s latest financial results are in, and the company is taking pride in the sales of its first Wii U game. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, a launch game in Japan, was “a smash hit”.

The 3DS version of Ultimate had also been re-released under a new “Best Price!” label. According to Capcom, it has “enjoyed steady growth.”

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate launches simultaneously in North America on March 19 and on March 22 in Europe.

First True 3D Entry in Revered Series Now Available for Nintendo 3DS

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– You are standing at the edge of a massive battlefield. Before you stands a sea of enemies: wyvern riders, dark mages, fearsome knights. You and your companions must use your wits to defeat the approaching onslaught. One wrong move could end in defeat. But the right decisions could result in a glorious victory. Your archer is in position. Your healer is standing close. You are defending the Kingdom of Ylisse from a vicious enemy alongside the bravest warriors in the land. You are ready. This is Fire Emblem Awakening.

Today, for the first time, the epic fantasy turn-based strategy series launches for Nintendo 3DS in retail stores and in the Nintendo eShop. Fire Emblem Awakening follows the story of Lord Chrom as he bands together with a growing army of brave companions to save the world from a rising evil.

At the moment, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate is a 3DS exclusive. That could change in the future, however.

MercurySteam producer David Cox revealed to CVG that all of the game’s assets were made in HD. That includes the textures, levels, and models. But to have everything fit on the 3DS, the team shrunk things down. Cox said that MercurySteam does “have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere.”

“We created everything in high definition – all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything – and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS. Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere.”

This new information begs the question: could we ever seen an HD version of Mirror of Fate? Cox is more than open to the possibility:

“Absolutely, yeah. We would consider it. We want as many people to play it as possible. Obviously we have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo right now though and they’ve been very supportive of the product.”

Fire Emblem: Awakening officially launches tomorrow. However, it sounds like most retailers won’t have stock available until later in the week.

Some of the more well-known retailers in North America have said that Awakening has seen shipping delays. There are Best Buys claiming that they won’t have stock until Wednesday while GameStop may not be able to sell copies until Friday. Amazon’s product page also contains a notice that “manufacturer shipping delays” could affect pre-orders.

If you’re desperate to play Fire Emblem: Awakening, you could always purchase the game through the 3DS eShop. It should be going live on the digital store later tonight.

Monolith Soft’s “X” was revealed during a Nintendo Direct a little over a week ago. This isn’t the company’s only new project in development, however.

In an interview posted on Monolith’s site, Yasuyuki Honne – director of the Baten Kaitos games – stated that its Kyoto studio is continuing to look for staffers. 3D CG effect designers, motion designers, and 3D map modelers are wanted.

For those who are unaware, Monolith posses three divisions. Monolith Tokyo is making “X”. There’s also another team that previously developed Project X Zone. Monolith Kyoto is the final group.

When we last heard about Monolith Soft Kyoto, the studio was hiring for a secret 3DS game. We’re assuming this latest staff recruitment is related.

In a Facebook page promoting the new positions available at its Kyoto office, Monolith attached the image above. Is it a piece of concept art from the new 3DS title?

Resident Evil: Revelations producer Masachika Kawata fielded a few questions about Capcom’s new HD version in an interview with Nowgamer. Kawata commented on the game’s new aspects, why it’s being brought to consoles, and more. There’s general talk about the Resident Evil series, too.

Head past the break for the full Q&A.
