“Between ‘Nintendogs + Cats’ and ‘Pilotwings,’ those two franchises, either on the original DS or on other legacy systems like the NES or Super NES, have sold tens of millions of copies. Those two franchises have a lot of strength all by themselves. ‘Steel Diver’ is a brand new experience, and from a compelling standpoint, we think it’s awfully compelling. Mario, Zelda, all of those titles are coming. From our perspective, we like to launch titles when they’re ready. And so they’ll be ready, they’ll be ready soon. Just not in that initial time period of late March to early June. I would say ‘Super Street Fighter 4,’ I would say ‘Dead or Alive,’ I would say ‘Madden’ and I would say, yes, the three first-party launch games that we have, as well.”

This is pretty much in line with what Nintendo has said previously. Nintendogs + cats will likely be available on day one, with PilotWings Resort and Steel Diver not too far behind. Then we’ll see some of the company’s other games sprinkled throughout the year. I just hope we don’t see Ocarina of Time sooner rather than later!

This information comes from Head of Team Ninja Yosuke Hayashi…

“For the battery stuff, basically, 3D viewing for a long time would be kind of tiring for your eyes, that’s why for the hardcore gamer we can switch the 3D depth slider to off. Without 3D viewing we can run the game (Dead or Alive: Dimensions) at 60fps, which the hardcore gamer can enjoy. People can choose [3D or no 3D] – that’s why we’re providing the option. People can play either way. 3D viewing is very interesting and more appealing.

“[Street Fighter is] originally and now a 2D fighting game. But, for us, Dead or Alive is a 3D fighting game – so [Capcom has] a limitation with Street Fighter. As a 3D fighting game we have a lot of possibility, and it is natural to convey it to 3DS. [Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition] has a figurine battle. We are in the fighting game genre, and they’re not fighting! [The game] remembers the habit and customs of the person playing – we’re going to fight with avatars which remember the action habit of the players.”

I think it’s understandable that people are upset with the 3DS’ battery life. 3-5 hours is a rather big step back from previous Nintendo handhelds. It might help if we were to receive a breakdown of the battery life with the different backlight settings, Wi-Fi/3D on/off, and other features in use/not in use.

This information comes from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer/director Ryota Niitsuma…

“I don’t know whether having this in 3D vision is actually comfortable for the player or not. There are a few things to think about. It’s obviously not impossible, but it requires a bit of thought.”

We have one fighter from Capcom soon to be released on the 3DS… But I’d be more than happy to see Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the system as well. At the very least, we know it’s something that is possible.

Bill Trinen on the 3DS’ launch games…

At today’s event, we’re only talking about the launch window. In terms of the day-to-day titles, we’ll probably be going into that in the next few months, closer to launch.

Trinen on if the eShop is coming later…

“Yeah, obviously, I mean we showed the video of the store today — it proved that it has a lot more features on this version than on Wii and Nintendo DSi. In terms of how or when it’s going to be available, that’s an announcement for another day.”

Trinen on whether or not he thinks the eShop will be available before E3…

“Today we’re really focused on the price announcement, the launch window time frame, and then in terms of specific announcements on each title in the shop, we’ll do that as we get closer to launch. We need to save some limits for later.”

This information comes from Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi…

“The concept of this game is basically to create the best version of Dead or Alive. Actually for the Metroid collaboration, we had help from Nintendo and they’re really friendly with us. But the concept of Dead or Alive as the best version of the game means Samus Aran or Metroid is something different. That’s why we are not focusing on that in terms of the concept. So talking about Samus Aran, is she playable or not? This time she’s not playable. But Samus Aran will be shown in the game. She comes to help the player. That’s the collaboration shown there [in the trailer]. But how you can unlock Samus Aran? Please find out by yourself.”

Samus won’t be playable in the game, but she will be making an appearance… just like Ridley. The stage inclusion from Other M is pretty neat in itself, if you ask me!
