At the time of writing, we still have a few weeks to go until the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s also been a pretty quiet year for Nintendo in terms of first-party releases so far, with only Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. That means it’s a perfect time to delve into some of the company’s older games, and I  recently played and 100 percent completed Metroid Fusion for the first time. In recent years, the Metroid series has seen something of a resurgence – between Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, you can definitely tell that Nintendo is pushing to bring this franchise back into the spotlight.

My first Metroid game was actually Metroid Dread, and even though I originally wasn’t a big fan of Metroidvanias, I loved it – you’re left completely to your own devices to figure out the right path, and the story really ramps up in the latter half of the game. This is completely obvious to those who have beaten Metroid Fusion before, but I didn’t realize how similar the game was to Metroid Dread. Not just in terms of the genre – the story shares many similar elements. So many, in fact, that Metroid Dread is essentially a direct sequel!

Today, we’re going over some of the most overlooked major games on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo recently commented on the Switch 2’s high price, confirming that the company will continue to support the current console for those who aren’t ready to make the move just yet. With that said, it seems like Nintendo Switch has at least another year of support left – with games like Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream coming in 2026. So even though it isn’t quite the end of its life cycle, we figured it’s a good time to go over some of the most overlooked Nintendo releases. With this list, we’re targeting high-quality games that aren’t discussed as often as they should be.

Chrono Trigger remake rumor

May 2: A remake of Chrono Trigger is apparently in the works. That information comes from Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, who allegedly shared the information at Comicon in Naples, Italy.

We do have confirmation that Horii was present for the event and was on hand delivering some sort of talk, based on various attendee reports. Regarding Chrono Trigger, he apparently let that information slip during an interview. After the host whispered something in his ear, Horii covered his mouth – indicating that he said something he wasn’t supposed to.

Onimusha 2

Nintendo has updated the Japanese Switch release schedule on Nintendo eShop for the week of May 22, 2025. The lineup includes the remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny and more.

Here’s a look at the upcoming digital download schedule:

When Nintendo Switch 2 launches in just a few weeks, Mario Kart World will be there right alongside it. Nintendo has now spoken about the decision to tie the two together.

In a recent interview, Nintendo’s senior vice president of product development Nate Bihldorff spoke about how Mario Kart World is “one of the most broadly accessible games possible.” Also, anyone can easily get into the game, but it also has a high skill ceiling – meaning it’s very appealing to both hardcore and casual players.

From what previously was a Japan-only PS Vita exclusive, 7’scarlet has finally made its western Nintendo Switch debut with a new launch trailer. The visual novel comes from Aksys Games and Idea Factory in both digital and physical.

7’scarlet made its way to the Japanese eShop last year with the announcement that a western release was to follow suit. In this game you play as Ichiko Hanamaki, a college student investigating a strange town in an effort to discover the truth behind her brother’s disappearance.

Here’s an overview of the game:

Pokemon Unite Alolan Raichu and Alcremie

February 27: Two more characters have just been announced for Pokemon Unite, with Alolan Raichu and Alcremie set to join the fray. This is according to the latest news just shared during Pokemon Presents 2025.

Alolan Raichu is dropping first in April – an exact date wasn’t given, but that information will follow later. We actually don’t have a launch window at all for Alcremie, though a 2025 release is expected.

The latest Nintendo Switch eShop charts for the week of May 17, 2025 are now available.

We’ve seen Minecraft dominating over the past few weeks, and while it’s still doing very well, it moves to second. That’s because Super Mario Party Jamboree – which has had extreme success in its own right – returns to the top. Also worth noting is that Fantasy Life i is in the top ten just with pre-loads – the game won’t be launching for another few days.

Fast Fusion GameShare

Speaking in an interview with Nintendo Everything, Shin’en CEO Manfred Linzner revealed that the team is using “completely new rendering tech” in its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 launch game Fast Fusion.

Linzner was talking about the capabilities of the console when that tidbit was shared. “It’s amazing how much power you can get out of a device that also works as a handheld,” he said. And because of that power, we should be seeing a better looking title compared to the studio’s Switch 1 launch title Fast RMX. Linzner told us that compared to that game, Fast Fusion will have a world that’s “much more alive and beautiful.”
