Ubisoft hasn’t given a clear indication as to how much Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope has sold, but it seems that the game hasn’t lived up to the company’s expectations. As part of a January financial update today, co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned how “surprised” they were by its “underperformance in the final weeks of 2022 and early January.” Just Dance 2023 Edition was another game Ubisoft called out as an underperformer.
Ubisoft appears to be facing some tough times on the whole for the time being. Guillemot stated in the same report: “We are clearly disappointed by our recent performance. We are facing contrasted market dynamics as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and everlasting live games, in the context of worsening economic conditions affecting consumer spending.”

In terms of software, it was a good year for Switch with the console nearly taking up all ten slots. Pokemon had two releases last year, and are naturally at the top of the list. Despite launching at the end of 2022, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet took the #1 slot with over four million copies sold. Splatoon 3 had a great performance of its own with over 3.5 million units sold. Also worth noting is that Kirby and the Forgotten Land nearly hit one million.
