So the 3DS XL is doing pretty well in Japan thus far. How about in the UK?
While not confirmed, a report suggests that the system “shifted a figure a little shy of five figures” – that would be under 10,000 units. This may not seem too impressive, but keep in mind that the estimate is based on sales tracked over a 24 hour period, not a full week. It did manage to outsell the first 3DS by a factor of just over 2:1. When the 3DS originally launched, it was on the market for a full week.
The 3DS XL’s debut may have contributed to a rise in software sales. Mario Kart 7’s sales increased by 45 percent, Super Mario 3D Land climbed up 37 percent, and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games rose 25 percent.
The 3DS XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2 had huge debuts in Japan this past weekend.
Nintendo’s 3DS revision moved 193,441 units in just two days, according to Famitsu’s Enterbrain data. New Super Mario Bros. 2 also came out strong with 430,185 copies sold.
Again, this information only accounts for two days of sales. The 3DS XL, along with New Super Mario Bros 2., were officially released in Japan on Saturday. Enterbrain’s tracking period for this data carried through Sunday.
Also worth mentioning is that Enterbrain’s figure for New Super Mario Bros. 2 does not account for digital sales. Although Nintendo hasn’t announced any data on this front, the company has said that it would be willing to share download data in the future.
Square Enix is still implementing fan feedback as players react to the company’s Bravely Default demos.
The next trial, which is due on Wednesday, makes use of a new encounter rate and AI for smaller enemies. Additionally, players will find that the attack time has been sped up in battles, and it is now possible to hold down a button and cycle through battle animations.
Gamelion Studios will release SpeedX on the European eShop on August 9 for £2.70/€3. Take a look at a trailer for the game above.
It seems that another small update has hit the Shin Megami Tensei IV teaser website. A new developer message has once again been added in.
If I’m reading this correctly, composer/sound producer Kenichi Tsuchiya wrote something along the lines of “We are creating a new savior (Messiah)”.
We’re a month away from a real Shin Megami Tensei IV update. The game’s first trailer will be included in the Japanese release of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers for 3DS.
Zen Studios will release 3D Solitaire on the North American eShop this week for $3. Take a look at a trailer for the game above.
AckkStudios is currently working on the indie title “Two Brothers” for PC. It’s an “Action/Adventure/Role-playing/Nostalgia” title with Game Boy-like visuals, which would make it a good fit on something on the eShop.
But rather than bringing the game over to the 3DS or Wii U, creator Brian Allanson has said that he’d rather develop an original project for a Nintendo console. He wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a port though.
According to Allanson:
“I would never rule out the possibilities of porting the game to a Nintendo console, but I think I would rather create another game designed for those systems strengths.”
Guitar Hero used to be a yearly thing for Activision. But after the release of Warriors of Rock, the series went on a hiatus. Activision felt that the franchise and the music/rhythm genre overall were losing interest.
So what would it take for Guitar Hero to make a return? Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg commented on this in the latest issue of Game Informer.
Hirshberg told the magazine:
“To this day, it remains one of the most beloved brands in entertainment. Will the game make a triumphant return to game devices and culture? That really depends on our ability to re-invent it in a meaningful way. It ran out of gas profoundly, as did the entire rhythm/instrument peripheral category all at once. Those are hard-earned battle scars, and if we think we have a meaningful invention that brings it back with new reasons to engage, then we will, but not before.”
