Through the many interviews of Iwata Asks, we’ve found out some very interesting things about Mario. We’ve learned about plans for a rifle, beam gun, and rocket in the original Super Mario Bros., heard why Shigeru Miyamoto included coins in the game, and received a ton of other interesting tidbits.

The latest edition of Iwata Asks focuses on Steel Diver, but Satoru Iwata, Miyamoto, and other members of the development team couldn’t resist bringing up Mario in the conversation. Miyamoto happened to discuss why Mario has a plump shape. He said:

“The reason Mario is a plump shape is because gaming devices at that time could only read collisions between square boxes, not because I wanted to make him cute. His design turned out like that because I adjusted for the capabilities of the gaming device of the day. For example, resolution was low, so I made his face big. But today’s game consoles can handle collisions with round or irregular shapes.”

This information comes from n-Space’s Dan O’Leary…

“We currently have three 3DS titles in development, one for 2011 and two for early 2012. All of them will be announced at or before E3 early next month. We’re very excited to share them with the world and hope that many of your readers will look forward to their release.”

Man, I really can’t wait to see what n-Space has done with the 3DS. I’d be surprised if at least one of the games wasn’t a shooter. It’ll also be interesting to see which publishers the company is working with.

If you watched the latest episode of ‘That One Show’, you know that our new friends at Rocketfish gaming accessories have offered to give all you cool cats some free stuff, so I said I’d do it, but only if I could challenge all of you to a test first. After much coercion, they agreed that I could test you, as long as it didn’t permanently damage you in any way.

Despite my disappointment at the above prerequisite for my plan, I decided I’d just put your Nintendo knowledge on the stand with a little question. All you gotta do is answer it either in the comments, via YouTube, via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc (as long as I see it), and then if you get it right, you’ll be put in a random selection to win one of these:

We have a total of five to give away, but I’m only giving away two this week. Here’s your question:

Nintendo is soon to release a line of “Nintendo Select” titles for the Wii that will offer some of the best titles on the system, including Twilight Princess and WarioWare, for just $20. Before the Wii, what did Nintendo call it when they rereleased games at lower prices, such as The Legend Of Zelda Four Swords Adventure on Gamecube? For bonus points, name the first game system to ever use this idea of rereleasing games.

If you win, we’ll e-mail you. The only rule I can think of is that you (unfortunately) have to live inside the United States to receive one. Sorry, international crowd! We love and respect you, but shipping costs are ridiiiiculous.

One word: Yikes!

Check out the description of Modern Warfare 3 on the Facebook page…

“Modern Warfare is back. On November 8th, the best-selling first-person action series of all-time returns with the epic sequel to the multiple Game of the Year award winner Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC.”

Activision hasn’t announced anything officially, so we can’t start calling for people’s heads just yet. This definitely isn’t a good sign, though… After releasing Black Ops on Wii last year, I have absolutely no idea why the company wouldn’t consider a Wii version of Modern Warfare 3. I’d love an explanation if this is true!
