Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Speculation about a potential Switch version of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is back in the spotlight – for the moment anyway.

DHX Brands published a new “Licensing Source Book Europe” for Spring 2018, and has some comments from merchandising company GB Eye. Max Arguile, who works there as as a licensing manager, claims that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be brought to Switch. This is part of a five-year plan in which another Crash game will supposedly launch in 2022.

Though the game had released many years ago, the online servers for GoldenEye 007 have still been up and running on Wii. At least in Japan, they’ll be going offline on March 30. The news hasn’t been confirmed for other territories as of yet, but other regions could certainly be impacted as well.

You might be wondering how the online play for GoldenEye 007 could still be running after the end of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection a few years ago. While most games for Wii and DS were affected, a few were not – including this title.

Update: The dream is dead, for now anyway. Keymailer’s co-founder says the listing was an error.

Keymailer co-founder here. This was news to me when I saw this thread. I reached out to the management team and apparently this is, sadly, an error on our side. The game was incorrectly tagged when we imported the upcoming releases.

Apologies on behalf of the company for any disappointment on this, as a Switch owner and a fan of Crash Bandicoot, I would have been as excited to play this.

Original: Keymailer is a company that connects YouTube and Twitch content creators to games publishers and developers via review codes. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is currently listed for the Switch on Keymailer’s site. While this is likely an error, this would not be the first time the Crash Bandicoot series has appeared on Nintendo hardware, and there has been some inconsistent information whether the title would be a Sony exclusive.

Over the past few years, the toys-to-life market seemed to be on the way out. Disney Infinity is dead. LEGO Dimensions hasn’t seen as much content as it once did. Activision also didn’t have a new Skylanders in 2017 for the first time in many years.

So at E3, it was somewhat surprising to see Ubisoft announce Starlink. And while Activision doesn’t have something completely new for Skylanders this year, it sounds like they’re still committed to the series.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg had this to say about the state of Skylanders and the overall toys-to-life market:

Activision and Bungie have no plans to make a Switch version of Destiny 2.

IGN asked project lead Mark Noseworthy about the possibility, who initially said Bungie has “no announcements to make about the Switch at this time”. IGN then pressed further and asked if the franchise could eventually end up on Switch.

Noseworthy said in response:

Skylanders Imaginators is one of the launch games for Switch, and Activision has a new trailer up for the game. You can check it out below.

Nintendo World Report posted a video today containing 19 minutes of footage from Skylanders Imaginators. Take a look at the gameplay below.

New Skylanders titles have been produced annually since 2011. This year, Activision is finally breaking that tradition. The company confirmed that there will not be a new game on consoles in 2017.

Activision isn’t abandoning its plans for Skylanders overall. New content is planned for Skylanders Imaginators (including a Switch version), and a mobile game is in the works. We also know that the Netflix animated show has been renewed for a third season, and we’ll be seeing that in 2018.

Activision is extending its Skylanders Academy animated series further. The company announced today that the show has been renewed for a third season, which will begin production in February.

Season 3 kicks off in 2018. As for the second season, here’s what fans can look forward to:

“This year, audiences can enjoy Season 2 of ‘Skylanders Academy,’ which brings back Justin Long as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks as Eruptor and Norm Macdonald as Glumshanks.

New addition Felicia Day (The Guild, Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will join the cast in Season 2, voicing the role of Cynder, a new cadet at the Academy with a mysterious past. The Diamond Minecart (Daniel Middleton) will reprise his role as Cy and Daniel Wu returns as King Pen. Additional voice talent in Season 2 includes Susan Sarandon, Parker Posey, James Hetfield, Catherine O’Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz. The series features the exclusive song ‘Harmony’ (Skylanders Academy Theme) produced by GRAMMY® Award winner Timbaland and performed by Timbaland fet. Dalton Diehl.”
