Doom panels announced for QuakeCon 2019

QuakeCon 2019 is happening this week, and Doom will naturally have a big focus. Bethesda is planning a pair of panels for the series – one after the main keynote on July 26, and another for July 27. Saturday’s presentation will feature the first live gameplay demo of Doom Eternal.

Doom Eternal art book on the way

Dark Horse has announced that it is producing a hardcover art book for Doom Eternal. Spanning nearly 200 pages, it will feature concept art from the game as well as commentary from the game’s development.

Doom Eternal doesn’t have traditional multiplayer, Battlemode is the primary multiplayer mode

One of the new features we found out about for Doom Eternal this past week is Battlemode. In this multiplayer mode, a fully-armed Doom Slayer goes up against against two player-controlled demons in first-person combat.
As far as multiplayer goes, that’ll be just about it for Doom Eternal. Executive producer Marty Stratton told IGN at E3 this week that there will not be any other traditional multiplayer mode in the game.

Rage 2 devs have been “looking into” a possible Switch release, tech “challenges” preventing a port

Since Bethesda announced Rage 2 at E3 last year, the question of a Switch port has come up a few different times. id Software studio director Tim Willits provided the latest update in an interview with DualShockers.
When asked about a possible Switch version, Willits confirmed that the developers have been “looking into it.” However, he said that “there are some challenges” when it comes to the technology.

Classic id Software game Commander Keen in Keen Dreams gets surprise release on Switch

In the early ’90s, id Software worked on a series of side-scrolling platformer games known as Commander Keen. The studio is now more largely known for the likes of Doom, Rage, and Wolfenstein.
Now roughly three decades later, Commander Keen has returned with a surprise re-release on Switch. Commander Keen in Keen Dreams is available on the eShop despite no prior announcement.
Bethesda again says it has talked about Rage 2 for Switch, but unsure if it would work on the system

Earlier this month, we heard that Bethesda is at least considering the possibility of putting Rage 2 on Switch. The company’s Pete Hines has commented on the situation further in a new interview.
Hines indicated that it could be difficult to bring Rage 2 to Switch since the game is built with Avalanche Studios’ engine. Whether or not it “could ever work on the Switch” is still unknown.

Doom Eternal is a direct sequel to Bethesda and id Software’s Doom from 2016, which came out on Switch last year. Some might be surprised that the title isn’t being called Doom 2. However, there is reasoning behind that.
