Mario movie

Nintendo just announced that it will host a new The Super Mario Bros. Movie Direct tomorrow, November 29. It will kick off at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM in the UK / 11 PM in Europe.

Thus far Nintendo has only said that The Super Mario Bros. Movie Direct will include the second trailer for the film. It’s unclear if anything else will be shown. Unsurprisingly, the broadcast will not feature any game information.

Mario Bros movie Shigeru Miyamoto

Many games have been adapted for the big screen over the years, but more often than not, they don’t turn out that well. Nintendo is now taking its first shot in this area with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, an animated take on its legendary platforming franchise.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto believes that the upcoming film will solve issues that have previously impacted film adaptations of games. During a financial results briefing this week, he said that two problems have been kept in mind. The first is that “with video games, it is the gaming experience that makes them compelling, so a movie that adheres to the story of a game will not necessarily be interesting.” Also brought up is how “people who have played the game will expect a movie experience that is faithful to their memories of the game, while those who have never played the game will expect a movie that is enjoyable as an independent piece of entertainment.” Miyamoto said that Nintendo and Illumination “spent a significant amount of time trying to figure out how to overcome these two challenges.”

Toad Mario Bros Movie music

Keegan-Michael Key has spoken briefly about his role as Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and interestingly enough, it looks like he has a musical number in the film.

Key said in an interview with Variety that Toad will show off his singing chops. He further added that he even improvised a song.

The day many were waiting for finally arrived this week with the first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Nintendo even decided to show off the teaser by broadcasting it in a special Nintendo Direct. The trailer was obviously the main point of the whole thing, but we did get to hear a few words from Shigeru Miyamoto, Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, Chris Pratt (the voice of Mario), and Jack Black (the voice of Bowser).

Now that the dust has settled on the first trailer, what are thoughts on what was shown? How are you feeling about Mario’s look in the movie? Are you liking (or disliking) what you’ve heard from Chris Pratt and Jack Black? Let us know in the comments below.

Khary Payton penguin Super Mario Bros movie

Khary Payton is the voice of the penguin king in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the actor has confirmed.

Nintendo and Illumination shared the first trailer for the film earlier today. Towards the start of the video, we see Bowser wreck the penguin kingdom and taking the Super Star. And during that scene, we briefly get to hear the king penguin speak, and it turns out that Payton is behind the character.

Payton took to Twitter and shared the news about his role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie:

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has finally released its first trailer, and we now have comments from Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri plus Shigeru Miyamoto, the character’s creator.
