Mr. Driller DrillLand is a relic of a lost time. Initially released in 2002 on the GameCube in Japan, this classic entry in the Mr. Driller series is finally arriving in the rest of the world for the first time through this remastered release on Switch. It feels like a swansong to the classic arcade puzzle game formula – it has all the simplicity, penny-pinching difficulty, and endless addictive qualities that have made arcade games so memorable for decades, all polished up to perfection thanks to its immaculate audio-visual presentation and excellent gameplay variety. And with new HD visuals and a few modern adjustments in the Switch version, there’s never been a better time to dig in.

Mr. Driller DrillLand, Bandai Namco’s puzzle title for GameCube previously exclusive to Japan, has now received a new worldwide release on Switch. View the official launch trailer below.

In Japan, Mr. Driller is being sold both physically (with English support) and digitally. It’s a digital-only launch in the west.

Bandai Namco is letting fans try out Mr. Driller DrillLand prior to launch – at least in Japan. A demo is currently up on the Japanese eShop. As long as you create a Japanese Nintendo Account on your system, you can access the store and the demo regardless of your actual region.

Bandai Namco will presumably offer the Mr. Driller DrillLand demo outside of Japan soon, though there’s no official news on that currently.

Bandai Namco is bringing Mr. Driller back in about a month. Mr. Driller DrillLand, a GameCube title that never left Japan, will now be seeing a worldwide release on Switch.

At least in North America and Europe, the game appears to be digital-only. In Japan, however, the situation is different. It’s confirmed to be receiving a physical version in the region.
