Nintendo Switch Online

Starting today, Nintendo Switch Online members can get their hands on Yoshi’s Island icons.

This is another instance of a game being tied to playing. Before gaining access to the icons, you’ll need to boot up Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island on the SNES app. Then you’ll be able to access the full set – of which there are only five. Characters are available for 10 Platinum Points each via My Nintendo.

F-Zero Maximum Velocity Switch Online

F-Zero Maximum Velocity is set to join Nintendo Switch Online this week, Nintendo has announced. It’ll be going live on March 29, 2024.

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity originally released for the Game Boy Advance. If you’re interested in accessing the game, you’ll need a subscription to the Expansion Pack tier for Nintendo Switch Online.

November 30 (2022): Nintendo Switch Online previously offered users icons for Splatoon 3, but the game is now a featured title once again. There’ll be five sets that rotate weekly on every Wednesday until January 9, 2023.

As usual, there are characters, backgrounds, and frames to choose from. Each one costs 5 or 10 Platinum Points as earned through My Nintendo. Once you’ve claimed an icon, it’s yours to claim forever – even if your subscription to Nintendo Switch Online expires.

Dr Mario, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis Nintendo Switch Online

Three new games have been announced for release on Nintendo Switch Online, with Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis joining the service. All three drop on March 12, 2024.

All three titles are appearing on Nintendo Switch Online in celebration of MAR10 Day.

EarthBound Beginnings icons Switch Online

February 21: EarthBound Beginnings is now a featured game on Nintendo Switch Online with a new round of icons. This may come as a surprise

Super Mario World icons Switch Online

Super Mario World and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are now the latest featured games on Nintendo Switch Online for user icons, but there’s a little bit of a different spin this time around.

In the past members have been able to simply boot up the app and spend My Nintendo points to claim icons. However, as an added wrinkle, you’ll need to actually play the games.

Mario vs Donkey Kong icons

February 15: Going along with the release of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, new icons for the game have just been added to Nintendo Switch Online.

It looks like there’ll only be a couple of waves for this one. Still, subscribers can spend their My Nintendo Platinum Points on different designs. A bunch of characters – including Mario, Donkey Kong, and Toad – can be picked up for 10 Platinum Points each. Backgrounds and frames are going for 5 Platinum Points each.

Mother 3 Switch Online

Mother 3 has just come to Nintendo Switch Online, but only in Japan. Those with an active subscription to the Expansion Pack tier can access it now.

At least in the present, don’t expect an official English release in the west. Nintendo has yet to ever localize the game in English dating all the way back to the original Game Boy Advance launch.

Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll, R.C. Pro-Am, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Killer Instinct, and Blast Corps have all been announced for Nintendo Switch Online. The full set launches today.
