Nintendo on rising sales in Asia, Ring Fit Adventure “off to a great start” in China

When you think about Nintendo’s major markets, North America, Europe, and Japan come to mind. However, other regions of the world are beginning to have more of an impact, including Asia.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke about sales in Asia during the company’s latest financial results conference call. As part of that, we hear that in China, “Ring Fit Adventure got off to a great start when it was released by them on September 3 and it continues to sell well.”

Nintendo says Pikmin 3 Deluxe is often being chose as the next title from Switch players after Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a massive success. It has already sold over 26 million copies worldwide despite releasing this year, and has helped move a ton of Switch hardware.
While speaking about the game during a financial results conference call, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa shared an interesting tidbit. Interestingly, Furukawa said that “Pikmin 3 Deluxe has frequently been chosen as the next title after Animal Crossing: New Horizons by many consumers, especially in Japan.” It makes sense that Nintendo wants Switch owners who started out with Animal Crossing “to become aware of and play as many different titles as possible, regardless of whether those titles are new or evergreen.”
Furukawa had this to say when asked about how many of the previously released titles that hit the million mark in the six-month financial period were ones that people can enjoy playing together, and whether they were consciously recommended to Animal Crossing players:

Original (11/8): This week’s UK software sales are in, which saw physical Switch game sales rise by 38 percent.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons came in at #2 and was up 22 percent week-on-week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe increased by 41 percent, Minecraft jumped up 39 percent, Super Mario 3D All-Stars rose by 24 percent, and Ring Fit Adventure skyrocketed 69 percent. However, Pikmin 3 decreased by 66 percent and landed at #22 on the charts.

More data is in providing sales updates on a bunch of games that have sold over one million copies on Switch. The list, which accounts for sales as of June 2020, is noteworthy as these titles were not covered in Nintendo’s latest financial report this week – the company only selects certain titles that it provides information on.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses surpasses three million copies sold, best selling Fire Emblem game ever

Fire Emblem: Three Houses has gone on to become the best-selling entry in series history. To date, the game has sold 3.02 million copies worldwide. That’s as of June 2020.
Prior to today, the last official number for Fire Emblem: Three Houses was 2.87 million copies. Nintendo had provided the figure back in May.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses selling over three million copies is significant, but as mentioned, it’s now the best-selling Fire Emblem title we’ve seen so far. Fire Emblem Fates previously held the record with 2.94 million copies sold as of the end of 2018.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 surpasses two million copies sold

Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which originally released in December 2017, is confirmed to have sold over two million copies. It currently sits at a total of 2.05 million units worldwide as of June 2020.
160,000 copies were sold in the last few months. The last official number we had was 1.92 million copies in December 2019.
Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed the latest sales for another Xenoblade Chronicles release. The May-released Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is currently at 1.40 million copies.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe has series’ best debut in Japan

Pikmin 3 Deluxe debuted last week, and Famitsu reported initial sales of 171,349 copies in Japan. That amount actually makes the Switch release the series’ best debut in the country so far. The next closest is Pikmin 2, which sold 162,000 copies on GameCube in its first week back in 2004.

Switch officially outsells the NES

When Nintendo reported its financial results in August, Switch sales were at 61.44 million units sold. Now, however, that number has since climbed to 68.30 million. That means Switch has officially outsold the NES, which sold a total of 61.91 million units.
Switch previously surpassed Wii U (13.56 million), GameCube (21.74 million), Nintendo 64 (32.93 million), and SNES (49.10 million). Next up is 3DS, which is currently at 75.94 million.
