The latest UK software sales chart for the week ending October 21, 2023 is now available.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder debuts at #2. With sales that are slightly higher than New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it’s the biggest 2D Mario game launch in UK history. For the franchise overall, only Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D All-Stars did better, but only by a little. One interesting tidbit is that Super Mario Bros. Wonder didn’t come close to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as the former’s launch sales are 62 percent lower, but it’s worth pointing out that Mario games are long-term sellers.

Thanks to GamesIndustry, we have new insight into the UK gaming market for September 2023.
The FIFA games were always popular in the region, so it’s no surprise that EA Sports FC 24 takes the top spot. Mortal Kombat 1 debuts at #3, with first three weeks of sales down 24 percent compared with the opening of Mortal Kombat 11.
Switch was the third best-selling console of the month. However, sales actually increased 18 percent over August.

Best-selling games in the U.S. for September 2023

Circana has released a listing of the top ten best-selling games in the U.S. for the month of September 2023.
Mortal Kombat 1 sees its debut at #2 – it was the third best-selling game specifically for Switch games only. EA Sports FC 24, which also came out during the month, lands at #4. Elsewhere Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is still in the top 20 at #4.

The latest UK software sales chart for the week ending October 14, 2023 is now available.
An unexpected game is the top Switch title – that being Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope at #5. It wasn’t even in the top 40 last week, so a sale likely provided a boost. Red Dead Redemption just saw its physical release and debuts at #6.

1 new Wii U was sold in the U.S. during September 2023

Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana (NPD), relayed a little sales tidbit about the Wii U today that we couldn’t resist sharing.
The console has been phased out for years with Switch now Nintendo’s primary device since 2017. Finding a Wii U at a retailer at this point is practically impossible – and the platform wasn’t exactly popular to begin with. However, as it turns out, a single new Wii U was sold in the U.S. last month. The last time a Wii U was sold in the states was in May 2022.
