Super Mario 64

Update: You can play it directly in your browser here.

Developer Roystan Ross has been tinkering away on a Unity-based remake of Super Mario 64. Earlier this month, Ross posted his efforts up to this point over on his blog.

You can download the Super Mario 64 demo here. Keep in mind that it’s a demonstration, meaning Bob-omb Battlefield is the only playable level currently. Also note that download links on the site may be down due to heavy traffic.

Like the “impossible coin”, there are other mysterious elements in Super Mario 64. One of these concerns a Goomba that has never been killed.

Bowser in the Sky holds what should be a triangle-formation Goomba group on one of its platforms. However, there is one Goomba that was initially presumed missing.

As it turns out, Super Mario 64 spawns the missing Goomba on the bottom of the map. It’s almost immediately killed due to its location.

Several methods have been created in hopes of defeating the Goomba, but none have worked thus far. It’s quite the mystery!

Have you ever heard about Super Mario 64’s “impossible coin”? It can be found on Tiny-Huge Island, and has been said that no one can obtain it.

But after 18 years, someone has managed to finally collect the coin – thanks to a tool-assisted run. Check out the results in the video above.

Aryok Piñera, who goes by the name “aryoksini” on YouTube, has started a project that remakes Super Mario 64 in the Blender Game Engine. The new version comes with a fresh look at some slight changes in gameplay mechanics. Potential feature additions include Oculus Rift support, portals and online multiplayer.

You can keep track of future developments on Piñera’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
