Super Mario Maker 2

The official Super Mario Maker 2 website has left its teaser state, and the full version has now opened. You can access it here.

The site has plenty of information about the various elements covered in today’s Nintendo Direct. You can also watch the full presentation there, view a trailer, and more.

How Super Mario Maker’s different styles were was clarified during today’s Nintendo Direct. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. are all interchangeable. Super Mario 3D World, on the other hand, is unique with its own elements that can’t be done in other styles.

As shown in the screenshot above, Super Mario 3D World exists in its own “Extra Game Styles” section. The thing is, “styles” is plural, which has led many to believe that Nintendo still has another style to exist. There’s certainly room there for an extra one.

Note that nothing is confirmed at this time. Super Mario Maker 2 is less than two months out from launch though, so Nintendo will need to say something soon if there’s another style to be revealed. Perhaps that could be done at E3?

During today’s Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Super Mario Maker 2 will have online and local multiplayer. Along with Multiplayer Versus, Multiplayer Co-op will be included.

In Multiplayer Versus, four players will be assigned a different character, and will race to the end in a randomly-selected course. Your versus rating will change depending on your performance. Meanwhile, Multiplayer Co-op has players working together to beat a level.

If four Switch players are in a room together with their own systems, one player can create a room for multiplayer. Only the person who makes the room needs a persistent online connection for everyone to play. There are no ratings here, but you can view the standings.
