Super Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker has added another new Event Course called “Paranormal Research”. After completing it, players can unlock the Professor E. Gadd costume.

Here’s the official course description:

“Professor E. Gadd works tirelessly day and night on his studies of spooky spirits.

‘I fear there may be a new breed of ghost lurking somewhere in this old mansion! Hurry and investigate! You’ll have to wait for yourself what haunted secrets await!'”

And a look at the level as well as the new outfit:

6.2 million courses have been created in Super Mario Maker thus far, Tatsumi Kimishima has revealed. The Nintendo president announced the news during the company’s financial results briefing a little while ago. He also divulged that 400 million play counts have been recorded, an average of over 64 plays per level.

Nintendo has just launched a new page on the Japanese Super Mario Maker website. This allows users to make their own wallpaper based on the game, including backgrounds for smartphones. Access it here.

Just like in Super Mario Maker on Wii U, the page can be customized with four different game themes. It’s also possible to place a number of different enemies and items.

Super Mario Maker’s online functions were taken down for “emergency maintenance” earlier this week. Nintendo didn’t say what was happening, aside from how they would be addressing a bug that occurs in “Create” mode. So what exactly was this all about?

Kotaku has a more in-depth explanation, but below are some excerpts from the site’s report:

“Joseph discovered a video where another player claimed their level had been hacked, as someone else had managed to achieve a world record on a puzzle level in less than three seconds.

Joseph realized the “hacker” had access to items that weren’t in the original level. In Mario Maker, it’s possible to download other people’s levels and edit them, but that’s not what was happening here. The “hacker” was playing the level on the server, which is why their world record times were being recorded.

Following the game’s lengthy maintenance, a new patch has been released for Super Mario Maker. Applying the update will bring it up to version 1.32.

Today’s patch simply addresses a glitch while in “Create” mode. It’s a 298MB download, in case you’re curious.
