The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac Repentance release date

The Binding of Isaac: Repentance has received a release date, with Nicalis today announcing that the game will be available on Switch in just a couple of days – specifically November 4. Note that this date only applies for North America, though the European launch is happening soon.

The Binding of Isaac: Repentance “takes the Binding of Isaac to new heights with an extraordinary amount of new and updated content.” It contains new items, new playable characters, new bosses, new challenges, and other secret surprises.

Here’s some additional information:

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ has already been teased for Switch once, and now it seems that Nicalis has done so once again.

Fans have found a secret message from the company’s Tyrone Rodriguez. After putting together the first words of several tweets, it states that the game is heading to Switch next spring.

Perhaps Nicalis will be more open to talking about The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for Switch after the big unveiling event in January.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth launched for Wii U last summer. The situation surrounding DLC expansions has been hazy, but now we can say for sure that the new content, Afterbirth+, will not be on the eShop.

That being said, we may have another case of a developer moving things over to Switch. A new post on the official Binding of Isaac website notes that Afterbirth+ will be on “PlayStation 4, Xbox One and one more console.” Wii U and PlayStation Vita were then ruled out. Since this console isn’t mentioned by name and we know of a new one on the horizon – specifically Switch – it’s very possible that The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Afterbirth+ will end up on the platform.

A few months ago, it was looking like The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth wouldn’t be on Nintendo platforms. That still holds true for New 3DS, but it seems that the Rebirth expansion will be on Wii U after all.

Nicalis’ Tyrone Rodriguez just sent out several tweets stating that The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is wrapping up on consoles, and the goal is to have it released next month in both North America and Europe. The subsequent message listed Wii U as one of the included platforms.

The tweets are as follows:

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is the biggest expansion for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. You can see what it looks like in a previous trailer below.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth finally hit the Wii U and New 3DS via the eShop earlier this year. Given that, could the expansion – which goes by the name “Afterbirth” – head to Nintendo systems as well? Unfortunately, right now the answer appears to be “no”.

Nicalis’ Tyrone Rodriguez wrote on Twitter a few hours ago:

Some might be surprised to hear that Afterbirth is having difficulties running on Wii U. Regarding that, Rodriguez said the following:

Rodriguez also recently noted on his Twitter account that another New 3DS update is planned. However, there’s no timetable for its release since Nintendo needs to approve it.
