Tomodachi Life

ON THIS EPISODE: Video games are stupid, so we kick things off by discussing a book called “Earthbound” by Ken Baumann! Both Jack and Austin read it and found it enjoyable, if a little rough in spots. Laura runs through her thoughts on the well-loved Disney Magical World for 3DS, Jack brings in impressions of Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition, and Austin says he thinks Conception II is pretty terrible!

PLUS: Our middle segment is taken up by a discussion of Tomodachi Life, including our thoughts, what we’re looking forward to, and what we’re a bit nervous about.

AND: Listener mail has us answering questions about what quirky JRPGs people should play and whether using restore points on Virtual Console games soils the experience.

Nintendo is changing Tomodachi Life for its western release. There aren’t many drastic overhauls, but there are some modifications in place to better suit the game’s new audience.

As for what’s changed, Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen told GameSpot:

Last year, Nintendo released a patch for Tomodachi Life in Japan to address a bug that allowed for same-sex relationships. This same issue has also been tackled for the game’s upcoming western release.

Some may be curious as to why Nintendo fixed the bug in the first place, and why same-sex relationships aren’t possible. For those interested, check out Nintendo UK’s lengthy statement about the situation after the break.

If you missed the Tomodachi Life trailer/press release we posted earlier today, then you may not be aware that Nintendo has teamed up with Christina Aguilera in a big way.

Aguilera is signed on to help promote the game, including a guest star appearance in a TV commercial and in online videos. Additionally, her Mii will be available at launch.

“Even your far-fetched celebrity dreams can come true in Tomodachi Life. If you have ever wanted international superstar Christina Aguilera to join you in a sing-off, or believed that she would become BFFs with your cousin or wished she would perform a song with your customized lyrics, it could happen here. The multi award-winning singer has signed on to be a part of Nintendo’s promotional campaign for the game, and her Mii character will be available at launch. Aguilera’s Mii character also will guest star in a TV commercial and in online videos that show all the exciting things that happen when celebrities mingle with Miis players know personally.”

CVG has published a new preview for Tomodachi Life. Sprinkled throughout are quotes from producer Yoshio Sakamoto and director Ryutaro Takahashi.
