Ubisoft CFO says Watch_Dogs could become a ‘major series’, but the focus now is on releasing it successfully
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii U | 6 Comments
After becoming Ubisoft’s most-preordered new IP ever, CFO of the company Alain Martinez has said that he believes the game has the chance to be the start of a major new series, like Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry:
“Very clearly, the priority today is to release the game, and make it a success. Of course we believe it has the power and the potential to become a longstanding brand for Ubisoft, [but] at this stage we don’t have any announcements to make to say whether it’s going to be one, two, or three years. I think at first we have to care about making it a success.”

Nintendo platforms not a big part of Ubisoft’s latest financial results
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 23 Comments
Ubisoft support for Nintendo platforms appears to be in steep decline. In its latest financial report for example, the company makes mention of Wii U only once, and that’s for Child of Light – a game already available. On 3DS, Ubisoft hasn’t had a major release in quite a long time.
In the previous financial year, Wii U accounted for only 3 percent of Ubisoft’s overall sales. 3DS was even worse – in large part due to a lack of games – coming in at 0 percent. Wii was the only platform to make a decent dent having contributed 11 percent.
What kind of Nintendo support can we expect from Ubisoft in the future? Well, Watch Dogs is still coming to Wii U. A new Just Dance will likely be made for both Wii U and Wii as well. Aside from these games though, nothing appears to be on the horizon sadly.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said during a financial call held earlier today that the company hopes to sell more than 6.3 million copies of Watch Dogs. Given how the first Assassin’s Creed performed, Ubisoft hopes its new open-world game can find similar success.
The publisher announced earlier today that Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in Ubisoft’s history.

Watch Dogs breaks record for pre-orders of a new IP
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 11 Comments
Ubisoft has set a new record with Watch Dogs pre-orders.
The game, set to be released later this month, is now the most pre-ordered new IP in Ubisoft’s history and the second-highest pre-ordered Ubisoft game ever. If that wasn’t enough, Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in the entire industry this year as well.
Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, commented:
“These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs. The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”
Gamestop pre-order sales data indicate that Watch Dogs “is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”
GameStop senior vice president of merchandising Bob Puzon said:
“There is massive buzz in all of our stores around Watch Dogs. Based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”
