Yet another indication that excitement for the Wii U is quite high: UK video game retailer GAME has said that they are expecting their Wii U stock to sell out prior to launch, but those who pre-ordered the system should get their units. This doesn’t just apply to the Deluxe Bundle either; the basic white SKU’s day-one stock has been offered to people as available for pre-order, which means it has sold out as well.

What this means is that GAME signed up everyone for pre-orders, then used their regular ol’ launch day stock to sign MORE people up for pre-orders and now those have sold out as well.

I imagine things are going to be pretty hectic for a few weeks for the Wii U…

Not sure quite what it’s about, but Nintendo has told everyone that its 3DS eShop, the DSiWare Shop, and the Wii Shop Channel will be down for maintenance tomorrow, Tuesday, November 6th. Some people are saying that this could have something to do with the Wii U launch– perhaps some implementation of the “Nintendo Network ID” we’ve heard to much about– but I’m guessing that it’ll set some things up being the scenes that we’ll hear more about properly a week or two from now.

Don’t get too excited just yet!

Hi everyone! As I’m sure most of you know, the Wii U comes out in two weeks. Pretty exciting! But what about the Wii? Nintendo may not come out and say it outright, but the unspoken truth of the situation is that the birth of the Wii U is the funeral of the Wii, and what better way to remember the memory of the certainly-historical console than to all share some of our memories about it!?

If you want to help me out with my feature, take the short 8-question survey and tell us about your favorite games, peripherals, channels, and more! If you took the survey via Facebook you can take it again and answer the three new questions if you want. If not, that’s fine too!

“The market as a whole is going to undergo a critical shift in priorities, a shift away from the absolute primacy of graphics and production values and content creation toward systemic depth. This trend is going to trigger a reality check for developers like me who work on established franchises with a large succession of sequels, and it’s also going to be a call-to-arms for smaller game creators, including a number of people who are sitting in this room, I hope.” – Splinter Cell: Blacklist director Patrick Redding

I’m not sure if I hope he’s right or if I hope he’s wrong! If AAA games go away, it would probably be due to the shrinking of the gaming industry. While that’s inherently a bad thing, I bet that smaller teams and more innovation/uniqueness would be the end result, which I would quite like!

Goodness this was a funny show! I can honestly say I didn’t expect things to turn out the way they did, but hey, sometimes surprise is best served unexpectedly. We got a new mic as well so the audio quality is GREATLY improved… but that also means you can hear Laura eating popcorn way too loudly sometimes! Ah well. Thanks to 5th Cell for those great Scribblenauts hats!

VBlank Entertainment says that getting a game rated for a new region is expensive, takes a lot of time, and is overall out of reach for them at this point. Because of that, their retro-fitted, retro-homage, retro-everything downloadable game Retro City Rampage will NOT be going to Australia, despite widespread critical acclaim for the XBLA and PSN release stateside.

Even still, the game will be coming to WiiWare later this year. Maybe, just maybe if it sells well enough they’ll reconsider in the future? Wii U perhaps?

Whoa, that is some BEAUTIFUL box/CD art!

I hope you guys weren’t hoping to get your hands on this, because by the time I found the link (pun) it was already sold out! Still, it’s worth watching and checking up on. It’s an awfully cool venture, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we see a second run and digital distribution options in the future.

This was supposed to go up last night and it didn’t. Now it’s going up tonight!

While I wouldn’t be at all surprised, an Ubisoft product manager seems to have revealed that the Gamepad can output in 3D. At an AC3 press event, they said that Assassin’s Creed III would support the functionality on both the television screen (if you have a 3D TV) and the Gamepad screen, making for a “dual-screen” 3D experience.

Of course, we’ve heard no comment on the matter since then from either Ubisoft or Nintendo, but given that the console itself supports the feature on the television, one would assume that it also supports it on the Gamepad. We can hope.
