Takaya Imamura, the designer for Tingle, has now retired from Nintendo

Takaya Imamura spent 32 years at Nintendo. Imamura ended up working on some of the company’s biggest games and franchises, including Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Smash Bros., Star Fox, and F-Zero. One of his noteworthy contributions was designing Tingle, who would go on to star in a couple of his own games after being an NPC in Majora’s Mask.
Imamura shared a selfie taken outside Nintendo’s Kyoto headquarters and wrote on his Facebook page:

Smash Bros. Ultimate to host tournament featuring the fastest characters

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be hosting its latest tournament in just a few days. This time around, the fastest characters will be featured. Players will only be able to choose from the top 16 speediest fighters on the roster.
The latest Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament kicks off on January 22. It’ll last for a total of three days.

During his days at Rare, Kev Bayliss worked on a number of different projects, including Donkey Kong Country. Bayliss helped determine the direction of the game’s character art.
In a YouTube video today, Bayliss offered up a look at some of his original sketches for Donkey Kong Country. Aside from Donkey Kong himself, we also get a look at Rambi, the Kremlings, and more.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time early 1997 build emerges with pre-release assets, showcases changes from the final game

One of our earliest looks at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came in 1997. It was fully playable at the trade show, which was a full year before launch. We’ve learned over the years that the build on display there offered up some significant changes from the final version.
Now more than twenty years later, assets from that early version of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have popped up online. Forest of Illusion obtained a prototype N64 cartridge for F-Zero X from a former Nintendo employee, which amazingly enough, has the unfinished build.
