Japan’s top 10 best-selling games of 2024, hardware rankings [update: top 100]

January 17: New data from Famitsu not only provided the top ten best-selling games of 2024 in Japan, but also hardware rankings.
The two best performers were both released towards the end of the year. Super Mario Party Jamboree sold over 950,000 copies at retail and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was just slightly below that (looking strictly at Nintendo Switch sales). Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom also makes the list with close to 400,000 units.
Moving Out 2, Dead Cells are the next Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial in North America

It’s a double-dose of titles with the next Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial as Moving Out 2 and Dead Cells 2 will both be offered for free. This will run between January 30 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET and February 5 at 11:59 PM PT / February 6 at 2:59 AM ET.
If you’re a member, both of these can be played in their entirety at no extra cost. Those that pick up the full games down the road can carry over their progress. Also, by participating, you can earn 100 Platinum Points on My Nintendo.

The release date for Metal Suits: Counter-Attack is now in. It’ll be launching for Nintendo Switch on February 13, 2025, Eggtart revealed today.
Metal Suits: Counter-Attack, a side-scrolling run-and-gun action game, was announced last June. While it was targeting a Q4 2024 debut, it missed that window.

Nintendo typically comes out on top regarding legal battles, but the company was recently unsuccessful in a dispute involving a supermarket with the Super Mario name.
A man named Don Mario has been running the shop in San Ramón, Costa Rica for decades. Recently though, his son Charlito attempted to renew the trademark that was already registered. That’s when Nintendo stepped in, claiming that it owns the Super Mario rights. It’s true that it belongs to Nintendo in many different areas, but supermarkets are an exception.
Turbo Overkill gets surprise release on Nintendo Switch

Turbo Overkill, the hyper-fast-paced cyberpunk boomer shooter, has just landed on consoles. Publisher Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive put it out digitally on Nintendo Switch with no prior release date announcement.
Turbo Overkill was announced for Nintendo Switch way back in 2021. All of these years later, fans can now finally pick the game up.

Caldera Interactive shared the news today that it’s bringing The Rabbit Haul to Nintendo Switch. Look for the game in 2026.
The Rabbit Haul features a mix of farming sim and tower defense gameplay. After taking care of your garden during the day, you’ll need to defend it from raccoons at night.
No Man’s Sky “Worlds Part 2” update announced, patch notes and trailer

Hello Games just pulled back the curtain on the next massive update for No Man’s Sky, dubbed “Worlds Part 2”. It should be available on Nintendo Switch soon.
Also known as version 5.50, the update features new stars, new story, and new classes of planet including gas giants, water worlds, and ruined civilizations. That’s along with new terrain shapes and biomes plus new creatures on planets. The engine has also received enhancements with a total overhaul of lighting systems, improved water rendering, faster loading times, and more.

Dramatic Create and Zombilica are working on a worldwide launch for The Town of Nie: Iromusubi, the two sides confirmed today. The title is slated for May 22, 2025.
