General Nintendo

Every now and then you hear about an uplifting customer service story, and Nintendo is now receiving praise for how it handled the repair of a child’s Switch system.

Fumie Wakabayashi, the child’s mother, sent in the console to Nintendo after it broke. The issue is that her son placed chocolate bar stickers on the device which meant a lot to him. Given how damaged the console was, the family didn’t believe they’d be getting them back. But much to the mother’s surprise, when Nintendo sent back the fixed Switch, the package also included a sheet containing the stickers as well – all of which were fully preserved. Wakabayashi ended up in tears with how happy she was.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown sales no sequel

October 22: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown won’t be getting a sequel as despite its critical success, from a sales standpoint, the game apparently didn’t meet expectations.

Origami Media reported on its findings today. Supposedly, while the team was interested in working on a sequel, Ubisoft wasn’t on board. It ultimately comes down to sales. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown didn’t sell what Ubisoft had hoped, and also felt that a new entry would impact the performance of the original game.

Here’s a translation of what Origami Media shared:

Masahiro Sakurai new game

Masahiro Sakurai wrapped up his YouTube channel, and one of the major tidbits shared during the video is that the Smash Bros. director has been busy working on a new game.

Sakurai said that he was asked to write a proposal for a new game while working on the last round of DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which he finished “at lightning speed.” Unfortunately though, he didn’t give any sort of details about what the project is. He only left fans with the following: “I’m sorry I can’t share more about this project, but assuming that we’re able to get it made, it should be announced sooner or later.”

Pokemon Rodeo

Details have leaked regarding an unreleased Pokemon game, which goes by the codename Rodeo. The project may or may not still be in development.

Pokemon Rodeo is an online co-op Pokemon battling game. The title revolves around riding and defeating rampaging creatures. One leaked image shows the ability to customize your Pokemon with paint marks.

Most overlooked Zelda game

Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons may just be the most overlooked entry (or technically entries) in The Legend of Zelda series.

Echoes of Wisdom recently released, and it made history as Grezzo’s first fully-original core entry in the critically acclaimed series. It’s been created in the same style as the Link’s Awakening remake on Switch: chibi-style graphics with a vague dream-like quality. A completely new Zelda game is absolutely the best timeline, but today we’re here to talk about something different that could’ve happened instead: Link’s Awakening-style remakes of Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.

Nobuo Uematsu games composer retiring

Original: Nobuo Uematsu has had an absolutely legendary career in the video game space, but it seems he’ll be wrapping things up soon. A recent video in which we get to hear briefly from Uematsu indicates that he’ll be retiring from the industry. Fantasian Neo Dimension will be his “final project”.

Uematsu briefly said the following in a video about the upcoming Switch RPG: “This is my final project as a composer of video game music. I hope you’ll pick it up and play it! Thanks for your support!”

According to a report from Bloomberg, Bandai Namco is cutting back on its workforce, which also ties into Nintendo.

The outlet reports that “lackluster demand” has caused the company to cancel several games and scale back on its employee count. Bandai Namco also adopted a common Japanese approach to reducing staff known as oidashi beya, which involves having workers sit in rooms where they’re given nothing to do to encourage them to leave voluntarily. When that happens, many take that time to search for other jobs. Bloomberg notes that 200 or so of its 1,300 staffers have been in these rooms and close to 100 have resigned. Even more could be departing in the months ahead.

If you were paying attention to Nintendo news just before Switch was announced, the image above with Mario might look familiar to you. The photo was shared alongside a message on social media telling fans to tune in the following day for a first look at the console. Mario is peeking behind a curtain, and it’s kind of become a meme with some even joking about how it looks like he’s in the shower.

Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, a pair of former employees at Nintendo of America, shared some behind-the-scenes information about the shot in a recent podcast episode. They confirmed that it was a new photo led by the company’s former head of social, and a photoshoot was done in large part because there weren’t any assets that could be used. Internally, it was “controversial” and Nintendo apparently wasn’t happy due to concerns about potentially mismanaging expectations.
