Rumor: Digital Foundry claims mid-generation Switch hardware refresh was once planned
Posted on 1 year ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 0 comments
Rumors of a more powerful Switch – often dubbed by fans as the Switch Pro – have persisted for years. The thought was that Nintendo would come out with a new piece of hardware that isn’t quite a successor, but would be a step up from what we have now. Presumably this theoretical device would allow for things such as technical improvements when it comes to aspects like frame rate and resolution and perhaps even better visuals.
Digital Foundry’s John Linneman has now weighed in on the situation in the outlet’s latest podcast. After speaking with some developers, he believes Nintendo was at once point toying around with a Switch hardware refresh. However, “that seems to no longer be happening” and the company is apparently pursuing a true successor instead.

Rumor: Bayonetta 3 was once planned as semi-open world game
Posted on 2 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 0 comments
A new report from journalist Imran Khan claims that Bayonetta 3 started off as a semi-open world game.
Khan said the title “was going to draw more off Astral Chain than NieR: Automata, but the idea was that a large hub world would send Bayonetta (or whoever else) to different worlds which would themselves be fairly open.” He brought up Super Mario 64 as a comparison point for the hub and went on to mention that despite work that had been done, “it kept falling apart when it came to pacing, and eventually Nintendo wanted them to scale back.” Another issue was how this concept was performing on Switch hardware.

Rumor: Details on negotiations between PlatinumGames and Hellena Taylor for Bayonetta 3
Posted on 2 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 0 comments
Bloomberg published a report today on the controversy surrounding the Bayonetta 3 voice acting situation and claims to have details about negotiations between PlatinumGames and Hellena Taylor.
The outlet, having spoken with multiple sources, has heard and saw documents that Platinum offered Taylor between $3,000 and $4,000 per session. At least five sessions were apparently planned. Bloomberg further reports that Taylor asked for a six-figure fee and residuals, and that’s where negotiations fell apart. After that, Platinum sought a new voice actress and eventually hired Jennifer Hale. According to Bloomberg, Taylor was later offered a cameo and would have been paid for a single session, but that did not progress.

Rumor: Nintendo Direct set for week of September 12, Zelda news incoming
Posted on 2 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 0 comments
Original (8/31): According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, a Nintendo Direct could air during the week of September 12. September 14 could be the most logical date based on when prior presentations have taken place and the fact the Tokyo Game Show will begin on September 15 in Japan. Grubb believes that the Nintendo Direct is planned for September 13 or 14 – depending on the time zone you’re in.
As for what the new Nintendo Direct will contain, Grubb thinks that “there’s going to be a lot of Zelda stuff” and “it will be a Zelda blowout”. Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD for Switch, which have been previously rumored, are thought to be making an appearance plus potentially Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Another possibility (but keep in mind Grubb doesn’t confirm its presence) is the Metroid Prime remaster – something else that there’s been speculation about.

Rumor: Specific tracks outed for future Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC in new datamine
Posted on 2 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 0 comments
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fans may have uncovered specific tracks that are planned as future DLC courses thanks to a new datamine.
In the latest update released for the game which brought about the second wave of courses in the Booster Course Pass, fans noticed that Nintendo left song prefetches to many future DLC courses. Nintendo deleted the full songs of unreleased tracks from the ROM, but accidentally left some of the prefetch files, which are stored separately. Music preview files are used since it can take some time to load a full music file from the ROM and this is played while the full file is being loaded, as pointed out by Twitter user OatmealDome.

Rumor: Leak hints at which platform tracks will be in future Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course DLC waves
Posted on 2 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 0 comments
A previous leak may give an idea about which platforms will be represented in future waves of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC.
Back in March, after the debut of the first wave, Twitter user Fishguy6564 posted a video showing cups with potential prefixes. It seemed to suggest that Nintendo had already decided on the full lineup of tracks the game would be adding from prior titles. We still don’t have complete confirmation, but this week’s announcement of the second wave gives credence to the original speculation.

Will we be seeing Oddworld: Soulstorm on Switch? A new store listing has been discovered, suggesting that an announcement will be happening in the future.
Dutch retailer Nedgame has put up a couple of pages for a Switch version. If what’s included there is accurate, the game will be getting a standard release as well as a collector’s edition. A tentative December 31 launch date is listed, though that’s not really notable.
