The developers of Mario & Luigi: Brothership have opened up about what it was like creating music for the game, including shifting composers from Yoko Shimomura to Hideki Sakamoto and some initial feedback from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. This information comes from a Famitsu interview with director Haruyuki Ohashi and producer Akira Otani.

Shimomura previously handled music for the series previously. However, with the franchise seeing various changes including Acquire taking on development, Otani said they “decided to get a fresh start”. 

Nintendo Switch 2 dock rumor

December 26: X user NextHandheld has shared a photo that could give us a first look at the dock for Nintendo Switch 2.

NextHandheld first posted a picture the main unit yesterday. That initially set off debate as to whether or not it was real, and if it was AI generated. Even so, it wasn’t entirely new as there have been various unconfirmed photo leaks previously from third-party accessory makers.

Shinonome Abyss: The Maiden Exorcist

September 19: Kadokawa, ABC Animation, and Wodan announced a new Switch version of Shinonome Abyss: The Maiden Exorcist today. The project is targeting a 2024 launch.

Shinonome Abyss: The Maiden Exorcist is a roguelike horror title. Players will step into the role of Yono, a shrine maiden, who has to survive in a haunted houses where Mononoke lurk.

Unsurprisingly, it’s yet another dominant week for Super Mario Party Jamboree at #1. We also see old favorites like Minecraft and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe rising in line with the holiday season.

It’s another year in the books for Nintendo Switch, and for what is most likely the console’s final stretch, it wasn’t quite as empty as people were expecting. We had many prolific releases, from Zelda to Mario to Mario to Mario. Okay, it was mostly Mario, but between a new Mario Party title and the first entry in the Mario & Luigi series in over ten years, there was a lot to love in 2024. We’re going over all of Nintendo’s news, announcements, and games from this year and asking you the question: how would you rate Nintendo’s 2024 on a scale of 1-10?

Freedom Wars Remastered physical

It seems that Freedom Wars Remastered won’t be available physically in the west, but in Asia, Bandai Namco has other plans. The game will be sold at retail in the region – and English support will be included.

Remember that Nintendo Switch is a region free console. That means the system is compatible with all games regardless of region. If you import the physical version in Asia, it can be played just like any other title.

Chronomon

Chronomon is planned to launch on Switch, Stone Golem Studios has announced. The project is targeting a Q2 2025 launch.

Chronomon is a game featuring both monster taming and farm sim mechanics. There’ll be various things to do, including catching, training, and evolving creatures, rebuilding the world, befriending villagers, battling, and growing your farm.

Top 20 games 2024 developers

This week’s issue of Famitsu contains a huge feature in which the magazine caught up with a ton of developers to find out about their favorite games they played in 2024. The overall results have been combined to give us a look at the top 20.

A Nintendo Switch game tops the chart – that being Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. From Nintendo, the one title that appears is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom at #13. Other notable games on the list include Unicorn Overlord, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, Balatro, and Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island.
