When a new Pokemon is announced for Unite, it’s usually just that – without any further information. That has happened once again. However, we’re likely to receive a trailer sometime within the next week, and we’ll add it in here once it’s live.

SpongeBob SquarePants Cosmic Shake review

System: Switch
Release date: January 31, 2023
Developer: Purple Lamp
Publisher: THQ Nordic

Of all the platforming juggernauts that come to mind when I recall the early 2000s, SpongeBob SquarePants is not among them. In 2020, THQ released a remake of Battle for Bikini Bottom – a 2003 game in every sense of the word. After selling over two million copies, it landed us with an all new spiritual sequel to that game in the form of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. The main hurdle this sequel has to overcome is being unshackled from the weapons-grade nostalgia that propelled its predecessor to success. To be fair to The Cosmic Shake, this is a difficult act to follow. How exactly do you craft a follow-up to a remake of a twenty year old game? Developer Purple Lamp has two decades of platformers to draw inspiration from, and the one it chooses to wear on its sleeve is unfortunately the remake that preceded it.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line demo

Square Enix is gearing up for a new demo of Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, the company just announced. It will be available on February 1, 2023.

30 songs and characters will be available. All characters can also go up to level 30 (you can probably notice a theme here). Progress will transfer to the full game.

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness update 1.03

Spike Chunsoft is back with another update for Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness – specifically version 1.03.

One of the highlights is that the Deep in Abyss Mode can be accessed immediately. In other words, there are no longer any requirements to unlock it.

The full patch notes are as follows:

Trophy

Today, publisher 8-Bit Legit and developer Gradual Games announced that they’re bringing Trophy to Switch. It’ll be ready to go this week – specifically February 2, 2023.

Trophy, an 8-bit action platformer that previously released as a NES cartridge, “features the classic movements of running, jumping, and shooting, and strives for a pure platforming experience, unhampered by excessive power-ups or useless abilities.” Games like Mega Man and Capcom’s Disney classics have been cited as inspirations.
