Ubisoft has previously released screenshots of Rayman, but it looks like this is the first time we’re seeing how the title appears on the 3DS – you know, in its actual resolution.

You didn’t forget, did you..?!

THE NEXT DIMENSION OF ENTERTAINMENT LAUNCHES ACROSS EUROPE

Pick Up Your Glasses-Free 3D Entertainment System This Week

The Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo’s new device which offers portable entertainment in 3D without the need for special glasses, launches this week in Europe on March 25th. Play games in 3D, take 3D photographs and enjoy engaging new social applications that will offer a new surprise every day. Nintendo 3DS will launch in Cosmos Black and Aqua Blue alongside 13 3D games including nintendogs™ + cats, Pilotwings Resort™, Super Street Fighter™IV 3D Edition, Tom Clancy’s™ Ghost Recon® Shadow Wars, PES 2011 3D and The Sims™ 3.

“Nintendo 3DS represents a dynamic shift in how we interact with games and continues the tradition Nintendo has for changing the technology landscape in the same way it did with touch-screen gaming in 2004 and motion-controlled gaming in 2006,” said Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe’s Managing Director of Marketing & PR. “People will truly need to experience it to believe their eyes.”

This information comes from Abderrazzak Elkaouni…

“Rayman 3D isn’t a simple port. We improved the game experience by adjusting the difficulty curve and the camera angles in the game. We also improved the game system and controls to provide all players with more accessibility. We polished the actors and level visuals thanks to the capabilities of the console. Finally, we made use of stereoscopy to create more immersion so that the player really feels like he or she is diving into Rayman’s universe.”

Rayman 2 is a highly regarded game, so I’d think it’d be tough to screw that game up! Still, it is a bit odd how we really haven’t seen much of the title…

Hideki Konno on adding text chat to 3DS…

“We are going to be making updates to the system, and I think that’s something that would be really interesting to do.”

While some people will dismiss this as unimportant, I think it’s fair to say that I should at least put it out there before making the assumption that no one wants to hear it. According to some tests by Destructoid editor Nick Chester, the 3DS actually displays regular DS games in poorer quality. Check out these photos he took:

As you can see, there’s a clear difference between the color intensity and the blurriness of the two screen photos. The one that seems a bit blurrier and less vibrant is indeed being played on a 3DS, vs. the clearer one on a DSi.

Of course, you can play DS games in their native resolution which cleans up the image a bit, but it also shrinks the size way down. You can see in that third screen that Pokemon takes up very little of the already small 3DS screen.
