Samurai Jack is finally getting a new video game, as it was announced that Battle Through Time is coming to multiple platforms, including Switch. At PAX East 2020, series creator Genndy Tartakovsky and head writer Darrick Bachman were on hand to talk about the new project.

During the fan Q&A, the two were asked why the direction was ultimately decided to be 3D rather than 2D. Tartakovsky started off by stating the following:

It took awhile, but a new Samurai Jack game is finally on the way. There was a somewhat forgettable GBA title based on the TV series back in 2003, followed by a poorly-received GameCube title in 2004. Now that Samurai Jack is back in video game form, series creator Genndy Tartakovsky wants to do things right.

Tartakovsky referred to that GameCube release – titled Samurai Jack: The Shadow of Aku – during at panel at PAX East 2020. He said it “was done very economically” and “very quickly” before noting that “it wasn’t the love you always want for one of your babies.”

As for Battle Through Time, Tartakovsky sounds much more encouraged. He shared the following about taking another shot at a Samurai Jack-based game:

New footage of Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time has emerged thanks to a behind the scenes video, which debuted at PAX East 2020. We have it below.

Note that the audio isn’t perfect due to how it was presented, but can still be heard.

Duck Game has definitely taken its time finding its nest on Switch. First developed as an Ouya exclusive all the way back in 2014, it’s seen numerous upgrades and re-releases over the years, including the announcement of a version for Nintendo’s hybrid console in 2017. After a two years’ incubation, this chaotic brawler has finally hatched onto the Switch. But after all this time, is Duck Game still all it’s quacked up to be?
